Tactics of surgical reconstruction of the forefoot with fallen arches in combination with hallux valgus has been described depending on the deformity severity. Original techniques for myotenoplastic reconstruction of the forefoot that enable to restore muscular balance as well as to eliminate forefoot deformity and hallux valgus are proposed. In 235 patients (329 feet) ana-lysis of long term results of surgical correction using radiologic examination and AOFAS criteria showed high efficacy of the proposed technique. Durable preservation of the achieved correction was noted.

Subpleural lung cysts (SPC) are seen in children with Down syndrome (DS). The incidence and the long term course of these lesions are not known. It is important for pediatricians and pediatric radiologists to be aware of these lung lesions since the DS patients’ longevity has increased and they have greater frequency to encounter the clinicians. Autopsy and the radiology series have shown that these lesions are often found in association with congenital heart disease, particularly the endocardial cushion defect and prematurity.

The types of surgical correction of the mitral valve pathology, hospital and long-term results were studied. The mitral valve repair being compared to the mitral valve replacement is procedure of choice as it provides stable results. In the study we demonstrate that the long-term results of reconstructive procedures on the mitral valve have advantages over mitral valve replacement in terms of survival, freedom from reoperation and tromboembolc complications.
