The PanOptix® IOL used for cataract surgery showed high patient satisfaction and a high probability of spectacle independence for distance and near vision. The postoperative refractive outcomes demonstrated a low spheroequivalent and cylinder, primarily related to careful IOL measurements, advanced IOL formulas, and surgical technique.

Purpose: To evaluate the visual quality, visual performance, and patient satisfaction after the implantation of the last generation supplementary intraocular lens (1stQ AddOn Trifocal) for achieving near vision spectacle-independence in pseudophakic patients who had primary monofocal capsular bag implantation. Methods: Patients who underwent monofocal lens surgery in the past year, and who expressed their explicit desire to become spectacle-independent were included in this prospective observational study. Uncorrected and corrected distance, intermediate and near visual acuities (CDVA, UDVA, DCIVA, UIVA, CNVA, and UNVA), refractive outcomes, lens positioning, contrast sensitivity and patient satisfaction were assessed 6 months postoperatively. Results: About 28 eyes of 18 patients were evaluated. No intra- or postoperative complications (iris chafing, iris capture, interlenticular opacification, IOL-dislocation, etc.) could be observed. The postoperative mean UDVA and CDVA were 0.05 ± 0.08 and 0.01 ± 0.03 (logMAR), respectively. The mean UNVA improved from the preoperative 0.50 ± 0.23 to 0.02 ± 0.05 (logMAR), postoperatively ( p = 0.0104). The postoperative mean UIVA and DCIVA were 0.06 ± 0.020 and 0.01 ± 0.00 (logMAR), respectively. Twenty-five eyes (89%) had a residual spherical equivalent within 1.0 D from the target refraction, emmetropia. Contrast sensitivity measured in photopic and mesopic conditions were statistically indifferent from the preoperative curves. All patients had better visual function and quality scores compared to the preoperative responses. The highest improvement could be achieved in near vision activities, dependency, and limitation of social functioning. Conclusion: The 1stQ AddOn Trifocal lens represents a safe and effective option for pseudophakic patients aiming for high quality, spectacle-free vision.

AIM: To evaluate the clinical outcomes in terms of vision across distances (near, intermediate, and far), contrast sensitivity and subjective patient satisfaction after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) with implantation of an extended range of vision (ERV) intraocular lens (IOL). METHODS: Forty patients (55 eyes) undergoing bilateral or monocular FLACS with implantation of the ERV IOL TECNIS Symfony (Johnson & Johnson Vision) were enrolled. Uncorrected distance (UDVA), intermediate (UIVA) and near visual acuities (UNVA) were evaluated at 3mo after surgery, as well the defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, patient satisfaction and spectacle independence. RESULTS: No severe complications occurred. All eyes showed a central position of the IOL in the capsular bag without tilting at 3mo after surgery. 3mo postoperative mean logMAR visual acuity at 5 m, 67 cm and 40 cm were -0.04 ±0.08, -0.17±0.22, 0.37±0.17, respectively. All patients obtained satisfactory UDVA and UIVA, as well as functional UNVA, meeting the needs of daily life. Spectacle independence rate was 94.55%. Contrast sensitivity results did not differ from those obtained with monofocal aspheric lenses. Likewise, no moderate and severe photic phenomena were reported. Mean patient satisfaction scores with distance, intermediate and near vision were 9.0, 9.0, and 7.0, respectively. CONCLUSION: FLACS with implantation of the ERV IOL TECNIS Symfony provides a successful visual restoration at far, intermediate distance and a functional-range near vision acuity, with minimal level of disturbing photic phenomena, and high rates of spectacle independence and patient satisfaction.

Abstract Background:To evaluate the effects of anterior capsular opening size on deviation from predicted refraction and the effective position of intraocular lens (ELP) in cataract surgery. Methods:Eighty patients (80 eyes) with simple age-related cataracts were treated from May 2018 to September 2018 at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University. The patients were divided into 2 groups : 40 eyes were implanted with the C-loop haptic intraocular lens (AMO Tecnis ZCB00) while the other 40 eyes were implanted with the plate haptic intraocular lens (CT ASPHINA 509M). Follow-up visits were conducted postoperatively at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months during which patients underwent refraction and data collection after pupil dilation that included anterior segment photography and Scheimpflug imaging by Pentacam. The area, horizontal and vertical diameter of the capsulorrhexis, circularity, decentration, and package were analysed using the image analysis software Image-Pro-Plus 6.0 that evaluated the relationship between the different shapes of capsulorrhexis with deviation from predicted refraction and ELP in cataract surgery. Results: Deviation from predicted refraction and all of the parameters of capsulorrhexis were not correlative in the 509M IOL group, however, in the Tecnis IOL group, while the deviation from predicted refraction and all of the capsulorrhexis parameters were not correlative at 1 week, the deviation from predicted refraction did correlate with capsulorrhexis area,horizontal diameter at 1 month (P=0.029, P=0.048), and the capsulorrhexis area ,vertical diameter at 3 months (P=0.03, P=0.017).The ELP correlated with package in both groups postoperatively (r>0, P<0.05), but there is no other capsulorrhexis parameters correlate with ELP in the 509M IOL group (all P>0.05). For the Tecnis IOL group, the ELP and capsulorrhexis area were correlated at 1 week and 1 month, while the ELP and horizontal diameter, the ELP and vertical diameter were correlated at 1 week , but did not correlate with the other capsulorrhexis parameters in the Tecnis IOL group (all P>0.05). Conclusions: The shape of the capsulorrhexis has an effect on postoperative refractive outcomes and the effective position of intraocular lens in cataract surgery, and plate haptic intraocular lenses have better refractive stability than C-loop haptic intraocular lenses.(ChiCTR-TRC-1800015638)

Purpose. To evaluate the clinical outcomes after bilateral mix-and-match cataract surgery using extended depth of focus (EDOF) and diffractive multifocal (DMF) intraocular lenses (IOLs). Setting. Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea. Design. Prospective clinical study. Methods. Thirty-seven patients underwent TECNIS Symfony EDOF IOL (ZXR00) implantation in the dominant eye, and TECNIS +3.25 DMF IOL (ZLB00) implantation in the nondominant eye. Patients were followed up for 3 months; uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA and CDVA), uncorrected intermediate and near visual acuity (UIVA and UNVA), contrast sensitivity, defocus curves, stereopsis, and patient satisfaction were assessed. Results. At 3 months, the mean logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution (logMAR) of UDVA was 0.07 ± 0.09 in EDOF IOL eyes, 0.12 ± 0.11 in DMF IOL eyes, and 0.02 ± 0.05 in both eyes. UIVA was 0.11 ± 0.11 in EDOF IOL eyes, 0.16 ± 0.12 in DMF IOL eyes, and 0.04 ± 0.07 in both eyes. UNVA was 0.25 ± 0.15 in EDOF IOL eyes, 0.22 ± 0.16 in DMF IOL eyes, and 0.13 ± 0.13 in both eyes. Thirty patients (81.1%) were more than satisfied with near vision, and 8 patients (21.6%) complained of severe glare and halo. Spectacle independence for near vision was achieved in 34 patients (91.9%), and 31 patients (83.8%) had better than a 50-second arc of stereopsis. Conclusion. Mix-and-match cataract surgery with EDOF and DMF IOL implantation provided good visual outcomes for all distances. Additionally, excellent patient satisfaction was achieved with a high level of spectacle independence and acceptable photic phenomena.
