CONTEXT: Bluish discoloration and swelling of the scrotum in newborns can arise from a number of diseases, including torsion of the testes, orchitis, scrotal or testicular edema, hydrocele, inguinal hernia, meconium peritonitis, hematocele, testicular tumor and traumatic hematoma. Forty-two cases of scrotal abnormalities as signs of neonatal adrenal hemorrhage were found in the literature. CASE REPORT: We present a case of scrotal hematoma due to adrenal hemorrhage in a newborn. Conservative treatment with clinical follow-up was adopted, with complete resolution within 10 days. The possible differential diagnoses are reviewed and discussed.

The ameloblastic fibro-odontoma (AFO) is a mixed odontogenic tumor, with characteristics of ameloblastic fibroma, presenting enamel and dentin, which occurs more frequently in individuals aged 5 to 17 years. This paper reports na extensive case of ameloblastic fibro-odontoma in the mandible of a 3-year-old patient, discussed in comparison to cases selected from a brief literature review on the clinical characteristics, Evolution and therapeutic options for this lesion. In the last years, there was no consensus in the literature concerning its etiopathogenesis and classification, yet recently the AFO was classified as a developing odontoma. This case is in accordance with the 7 cases reported in the literature of AFO in the mandible of children aged 10 years or younger, especially concerning the lesion pattern and evolution and treatment adopted. The patient did not present relapse and exhibited local bone regeneration at the 3-year follow-up.

The ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a rare benign mixed odontogenic tumor. It is composed of both epithelial and mesenchymal elements, but lacks of any calcified dental structures. Most of these tumors occur in the mandible and appears preferentially in the posterior portion of the dental arch with molar area predominates over premolar area. It is important to differentiate the lesion from ameloblastoma, since unlike the latter, it does not exhibit a locally invasive growth pattern. It is a well-circumscribed lesion and does not require the radical excision that may be necessary to effect cure with ameloblastoma. The present case report describes a 15-year-old patient with an ameloblastic fibroma in the symphysis of the mandible, a rare reported site. In the beginning of the article an extensive review of the previously published literature on ameloblastic fibroma has been made. In the later part, the diagnosis, differential diagnosis, histology and therapeutic procedures and postoperative follow up of the present case have been described.

Anastomotic leakage in colorectal surgery is an infrequent but in some cases very serious or even lethal complication. The over-the-scope-clipping (OTSC) system (Ovesco), which was originally developed to treat intestinal perforation and was tested on animals, could be the answer for the patient with such situation. We present a case of 63-year-old man suturae insuffitiency at the 40th post-operative day. The conservative treatment was long and unsuccessful. The lesion was then closed with two subsequent clips, and the patient recovered well without major interventions. The lesion showed a normal healing on the follow-up.

Clavicular fractures are some of the most common bone injuries in the paediatric population, yet the rates of nonunion are very low under 18 years. To the best of our knowledge, posttraumatic nonunion of the clavicle in a paediatric population is rarely reported. We report the case of an 11-year-old girl who presented with a nondislocated fracture of the midshaft to the proximal third of the right clavicle. Initial conservative treatment by sling immobilization demonstrated radiologically confirmed healing at 3 months. However, at 1-year follow-up, she presented with painful nonunion. Diagnostic MRI and CT exams confirmed a pseudoarthrosis, requiring elective open reduction and internal fixation with the aid of an ipsilateral iliac crest bone graft.
