The most important element of the production process is the optimization of the conducted operations. It is particularly important for the lean production process. In the paper is presented the analysis of the optimization approach using the CAE systems, the multi-agents systems (MAS) and the distributed robotics (DR) systems. Using the CAE techniques it is possible to elaborate the virtual environment in which the manufacturing cell is designed. The interaction between the virtual model and the process rule base allow improving the design of the existing standard machining technology. The MAS approach let to create the structure of the manufacturing process, taking into account both the machining stands and transport units according to the elaborate technological process. Finally the utilization of the DR approach for the optimization of transport operations including the heuristic algorithms. Moreover in the paper are presented the results of the investigations of analyzed problem on the base of complex production line for the cylindrical elements. The simulations and other analysis have been conducted in advanced computer systems. Also the basic relation between mentioned systems are discussed.

Resource conflicts have new characteristics under the condition of virtual manufacturing cell. The existing model tools have a shortage in solving the resource conflict detection of virtual cell. So this paper puts forward a new method of resource conflicts detection on virtual manufacturing cell. According to the resource plan of productive task, Bayesian network model of virtual manufacturing cell was established. We raised the model of resource conflicts occurring on the basis of the Bayesian network. We detected the position and quantity of the resource conflicts in the Bayesian network in accordance with the model of resource conflicts occurring. Then we used an example to verify this method. The results show that this method is feasible and effective. The method lays the foundation of the specific resolution of the resource conflicts on virtual cell.

As a new development of cell manufacturing mode, virtual manufacturing cell (VMC) has complied with the new production organization requirements of current production efficiency and production flexibility improving synchronously, and it presents new characteristics in terms of cost accounting and cost control. Traditional cost methods present some shortcomings in VMC mode. For these situations, this paper discusses the advantages of activity-based costing (ABC) in VMC mode and improves traditional ABC to better meet the cost accounting requirements of VMC. Finally, an example is used to illustrate the basic use of the improved ABC in VMC mode.

Machine is the key element in manufacturing system. Machine failure will lead to order delivery delay and production cost rise. Aiming at the random disturbance of equipment failure, a dynamic non-linear programming model of virtual manufacturing cell (VMC) is established, which aims to minimize the equipment cost, logistics transportation cost, delay delivery cost and the differences of workload among cells, based on the comprehensive consideration of equipment reliability, process route constraints, variable processing path and workload. Due to the high complexity of the problem, the hybrid particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the model, and the rationality and effectiveness of the method are verified by a numerical example. Experimental results show that this method has advantages in reducing the cost of cell reconfiguration, improving the utilization of equipment and shortening the completion time.

Abstract A Telemanufacturing facility has been developed to test virtual manufacturing concepts across the Internet. The essence of this research is a web site/service provider to aid manufacturers, especially small and medium size, in the different production functions of concern. The web site capitalizes on the advances in virtual reality technologies to enable enterprises to gain flexibility and competitiveness. Through this web site companies/users will be able to access a variety of services available within this facility. This web site initially will act as a test bed and a resource center for enterprises to base design and manufacturing decisions as well as utilize technologies available globally. The test bed currently incorporates three facilities, Rapid Prototyping, make or buy decision support system, and manufacturing cell development. Using this facility it will be possible to evaluate the functioning of the Telemanufacturing infrastructure and also highlight the problems and deficiencies associated with the system.
