This study aims to design an underwater rotor to utilize the flow rate of the river as a hydroelectric power plant. In this study, an underwater rotor design model will be made with three variations in the number of blades, namely three, six, nine blades. The test parameter observed in this study is the turbine performance through the value of the power coefficient (cp) and the moment coefficient (cm). The method used in this research is an experimental method, namely by making a turbine model with a laboratory scale. The results show that the underwater rotor designed with aspect ratio = 2.0, overlap ratio = 0, end-plate diameter = 1.1d then the barrier plate design with L/D ratio = 1.2 60º provides the highest power coefficient and moment coefficient, namely respectively 0.15 and 0.27 in the design with the number of blades 3 (three)

This work presents a numerical analysis of a four-bladed Rooftop vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT). The effects generated on the performance of turbine by the overlap variation between blades of wind rotor were analyzed. The numerical simulations were developed using commercial software based on Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD). Each one of the models generated was built in a 3D computational model. A sliding mesh model (SMM) capability was used to present in dimensionless form the moment coefficient and power coefficient of the wind turbine based on the relationship between wind speed and rotor rotational speed. The results show that the aerodynamic performance is better with overlap between rotor blades, resulting in a significant increase in the moment coefficient and power coefficient. Having that in the cases of four-bladed Rooftop rotor with overlap both coefficients increase about 29% comparing with four-bladed Rooftop rotor without overlap between blades.

The use of archimedes screw has shifted its use from pumps to a source of hydropower at low heads as water turbines. Archimedes srew turbine performance is influenced by several parameters including turbine submersion level, turbine tilt angle, pitch ratio, and number of blades. The contour of the lowland Jambi city that is passed by the Batanghari watershed makes the drainage potential can be utilized to become a small-scale hydroelectric power plant using screw turbines, because the contour of Jambi City is low, resulting in small water pressure although the discharge is sometimes large due to the overflow of the Batanghari river, then the choice of turbine with a low head is the solution, in this study, a study was made to calculate the potential drainage flow in the city of Jambi, whether it can be used or not.

AbstractIn this paper, we attempted to measure the effect of Bach’s section, which presents a high-power coefficient in the standard Savonius model, on the performance of the helical Savonius wind turbine, by observing the parameters affecting turbine performance. Assessment methods based on the tip speed ratio, torque variation, flow field characterizations, and the power coefficient are performed. The present issue was stimulated using the turbulence model SST (k- ω) at 6, 8, and 10 m/s wind flow velocities via COMSOL software. Numerical simulation was validated employing previous articles. Outputs demonstrate that Bach-primary and Bach-developed wind turbine models have less flow separation at the spoke-end than the simple helical Savonius model, ultimately improving wind turbines’ total performance and reducing spoke-dynamic loads. Compared with the basic model, the Bach-developed model shows an 18.3% performance improvement in the maximum power coefficient. Bach’s primary model also offers a 12.4% increase in power production than the initial model’s best performance. Furthermore, the results indicate that changing the geometric parameters of the Bach model at high velocities (in turbulent flows) does not significantly affect improving performance.

Abstract Cypripedium calceolus is considered an endangered species in the territory of Poland. Population of this rare species, situated at Lake Kwiecko (Western Pomerania), was regularly monitored in the years 1986-2013. The studied population has been under the permanent influence of the nearby hydroelectric power plant for almost 45 years. The field observations showed that the power plant had no negative impact on the condition of Cypripedium calceolus population. An indication of its good condition was, among others, an increase in the size - from 150 to 350 specimens within the study period.

The paper is a result of research at the Mechanical Engineering Faculty in Podgorica and represents the aspiration of authors to combine scientific and technical experience in order to achieve improvement in a real system. It is a complex system of lock chambers in a hydroelectric power plant. Based on a detailed analysis of the initial state, through the process modeling of complex real system, the authors identify possible areas where the intervening and applying modern systems with greater flexibility is necessary to achieve higher levels of automation. Also, proposed in the paper are measures for ensuring the security of information that rise system performance to a higher level compared to the competition and create an advantage in the global market.
