Abstract AISI 1117 is a resulfurized carbon steel for use where a free-machining carburizing steel is required. Its manganese content (nominally 1.15%) provides some increase in hardenability in all applications and increased hardness and strength in uncarburized uses and in the core of carburized parts. Its applications include a wide range of components of components and parts for machinery and structures. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: CS-96. Producer or source: Carbon steel mills.

Abstract AISI 1017 is a carbon steel with a relatively low manganese content (0.30-0.60%); this contributes to relatively low hardenability in all applications and increased ductility with decreased hardness and strength in the core of carburized material and in uncarburized uses. It combines good hot and cold workability, good machinability and good weldability. Typical applications are carburized parts, bolts, trusses and cold-extruded parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: CS-109. Producer or source: Carbon steel mills.

Abstract SAE 1023 is a carbon steel of relatively low manganese content (0.30-0.60%); therefore, its hardenability, hardness and strength are somewhat lower than that of steels of higher manganese content at comparable carbon levels. It has good machinability, good workability (hot or cold) and good weldability. It is used in the annealed, hot worked, normalized or water-quenched-and-tempered condition for many automotive and general industry applications. It may be used in the carburized condition or without carburizing. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: CS-78. Producer or source: Carbon steel mills.
