Abstract SILICO ALLOY is a silicon-manganese shock-resisting tool steel; it has high toughness at relatively high operating hardnesses. It is primarily an oil-hardening steel because of its molybdenum content (0.45%); however, it may be water hardened. It is a low-cost, high-quality steel that combines high toughness with the advantages of oil-hardening non-deforming steels. Its relatively high hardenability coupled with high toughness makes it extremely useful for larges shear blades in severe service. Other applications include pneumatic tools, punches, hand chisels, rivet sets and pipe cutters. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and elasticity. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-473. Producer or source: Columbia Tool Steel Company.

Abstract CARPENTER No. 610 is a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel with extremely high wear-resisting properties. It has very high hardenability (air hardening) and will be practically free from size changes after proper treatment. Its high percentage of chromium gives it mild corrosion resistance in the hardened condition. Typical applications include various types of dies, slitting cutters, heading tools and intricate punches. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, and hardness as well as deformation. It also includes information on forming, heat treating, machining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: TS-358. Producer or source: Carpenter.

Abstract EASTERN STAINLESS TYPE 348 is a stabilized type of stainless steel free from the chromium carbide precipitates that cause intergranular corrosion. It is recommended for welded components that cannot be annealed after welding. It also is used for parts that are heated and cooled intermittently to temperatures between 800 and 1600 F. Type 348 is stabilized by an addition of columbium. Tantalum is restricted to 0.10% maximum and cobalt is restricted to 0.20% maximum. Because of these restrictions, Type 348 is recommended for use in applications such as those encountered in radioactive service. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-447. Producer or source: Eastern Stainless Steel Company.
