Abstract Carpenter Stainless No. 2 Mold Steel is a 13% chromium steel ideally suited for long-run molding jobs. It is specifically used for protection against the following corrosive conditions: (1) Rusting of cavities when machines are shut down or molds are stored, (2) Rusting of mold cavities when using corrosive plastics, and (3) Corrosion problems when molds are used in hot, humid climates. In addition to resisting the above corrosive conditions, users have found that this steel has many other cost-reducing advantages for applications where corrosion is not involved. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: SS-367. Producer or source: Carpenter.

Abstract AISI 5117 is a low-carbon, low-chromium steel for carburizing and other uses. It is recommended for carburizing applications where it is sufficient to have a low-hardenability core of medium strength and toughness combined with a hard, wear-resistant carburized case. It is used without carburizing in the as-rolled, annealed, normalized or quenched-and-tempered condition. It is suitable for use in the automotive, farm-machinery and many other industries. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SA-376. Producer or source: Alloy steel mills and foundries.
