This article analyzes the digital communication of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) during its intervention in Spain due to the emergency caused by COVID-19. Using content analysis techniques, the text engages with a number of the messages posted on the MSF website, emails sent to partners and publications on Facebook and Twitter. The material (a total 58 messages) is categorized by subject, sender, format, and objective, as well as the presence of informative or emotional approaches. Complementarily, items such as intensity, positive or negative undertones and the terms most frequently used are also examined. Our conclusion points towards the use of digital communication with a view to reinforce MSF's public image as an entity specialized in health care in emergency situations. The unprecedented intervention in Spain during the COVID-19 crisis has also shown MSF to be accountable to its audiences, showing how the organization usually works in other countries.

Interprofessional education refers to the collaboration of students from different disciplines towards the resolution of a series of clinical situations. The general objective of this study was to analyze the perspective of the participants in interprofessional simulations (doctors and nurses) in emergency situations. Qualitative study with an inductive approach for the identification of categories derived from the opinions provided by the participants in interprofessional simulations was conducted (n = 58). Individual open-ended questions were provided through a self-completed qualitative questionnaire. The answers were subjected to a descriptive content analysis. Three emergent themes, 13 categories and 21 sub-categories were obtained. Emotions-related aspects, strengths, and areas to be improved were identified with respect to the interprofessional simulations. The participants highlighted the great closeness to reality, they felt comfortable and confident, and their positive emotions had a greater weight than the negative ones (uncomfortableness, frustration, and insecurity). The most prominent positive aspects were teamwork, the realism of the training, and the empowerment of the nurses. The areas that could be improved were those related to aspects associated with carrying out the simulations, the demand for joint planning, and the improvements in the development of the sessions by the facilitators (co-debriefers). This work demonstrates the good reception of the learning experience by the participants. Interprofessional simulations are great learning tools, although weaknesses were found that could be improved with adequate planning by the educators.

In the UK, tweets around COVID-19 and health care have primarily focused on the NHS. Recent research has identified that the psychological well-being of NHS staff has been adversely impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this study was to investigate narratives relating to the NHS and COVID-19 during the first lockdown (26 March–4 July 2020). A total of 123,880 tweets were collated and downloaded bound to the time period of the first lockdown in order to analyse the real-time discourse around COVID-19 and the NHS. Content analysis was undertaken and tweets were coded to positive and negative sentiments. Five main themes were identified: (1) the dichotomies of ‘clap for carers’; (2) problems with PPE and testing; (3) peaks of anger; (4) issues around hero worship; and (5) hints of a normality. Further research exploring and documenting social media narratives around COVID-19 and the NHS, in this and subsequent lockdowns, should help in tailoring suitable support for staff in the future and acknowledging the profound impact that the pandemic has had.
