In order to reduce the impact of load power fluctuations on the power system and ensure the economic benefits of user-side energy storage operation, an optimization strategy of configuration and scheduling based on model predictive control for user-side energy storage is proposed in this study. Firstly, considering the cost and benefits of energy storage comprehensively, an energy storage configuration optimization model with the highest annualized net income as the goal is built to determine the parameters for configuring energy storage. Then, with the goal of maximizing the profit during the scheduling period, pre-month scheduling optimization model, day-ahead scheduling optimization model and intra-day scheduling optimization model are established. The goal of the pre-month scheduling optimization model is to determine the maximum monthly demand; part of the scheduling results in the day-ahead scheduling optimization model directly participate in the intra-day scheduling; the intra-day rolling optimization relies on the advantages of real-time feedback and closed-loop scheduling to smooth out power fluctuations caused by load forecast errors. Finally, the configuration and economic benefit of lithium iron phosphate batteries, lead-carbon batteries and sodium-sulfur batteries are analyzed and compared, and scheduling analysis is performed. The simulation results show that the proposed optimization method can cut peaks and fill valleys, ensure the economic benefits of users, and provide guidance for users to invest in energy storage.

With the rapid development of new energy vehicles (NEVs) industry in China, the reusing of retired power batteries is becoming increasingly urgent. In this paper, the critical issues for power batteries reusing in China are systematically studied. First, the strategic value of power batteries reusing, and the main modes of battery reusing are analyzed. Second, the economic benefit models of power batteries echelon utilization and recycling are constructed. Finally, the economic benefits of lithium iron phosphate (LIP) battery and ternary lithium (TL) battery under different reusing modes are analyzed based on the economic benefit models. The results show that when the industrial chain is fully coordinated, LIP battery echelon utilization is profitable based on a reasonable scenario scheme. However, the multi-level echelon utilization is only practical under an ideal scenario, and more attention should be paid to the first level echelon utilization. Besides, the performance matching of different types of batteries has a great impact on the echelon utilization income. Thus, considering the huge potentials of China’s energy storage market, the design of automobile power batteries in the future should give due consideration to the performance requirements of energy storage batteries. Moreover, the TL battery could only be recycled directly, while the LIP has the feasibility of echelon utilization at present. At the same time, it will strengthen the cost advantage of the LIP battery, which deserves special attention.

In this paper, an innovative method for managing a smart-community microgrid (SCM) with a centralized electrical storage system (CESS) is proposed. The method consists of day-ahead optimal power flow (DA–OPF) for day-ahead SCM managing and its subsequent evaluation, considering forecast uncertainties. The DA–OPF is based on a data forecast system that uses a deep learning (DL) long short-term memory (LSTM) network. The OPF problem is formulated as a mathematical mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) model. Following this, the developed DA–OPF strategy was evaluated under possible operations, using a Monte Carlo simulation (MCS). The MCS allowed us to obtain potential deviations of forecasted data during possible day-ahead operations and to evaluate the impact of the data forecast errors on the SCM, and that of unit limitation and the emergence of critical situations. Simulation results on a real existing rural conventional community endowed with a centralized community renewable generation (CCRG) and CESS, confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed operation method. The economic analysis showed significant benefits and an electricity price reduction for the considered community if compared to a conventional distribution system, as well as the easy applicability of the proposed method due to the CESS and the developed operating systems.

In this paper, a peak shaving and frequency regulation coordinated output strategy based on the existing energy storage is proposed to improve the economic problem of energy storage development and increase the economic benefits of energy storage in industrial parks. In the proposed strategy, the profit and cost models of peak shaving and frequency regulation are first established. Second, the benefits brought by the output of energy storage, degradation cost and operation and maintenance costs are considered to establish an economic optimization model, which is used to realize the division of peak shaving and frequency regulation capacity of energy storage based on peak shaving and frequency regulation output optimization. Finally, the intra-day model predictive control method is employed for rolling optimization. An intra-day peak shaving and frequency regulation coordinated output optimization strategy of energy storage is proposed. Through the example simulation, the experiment results show that the electricity cost of the whole day is reduced by 10.96% by using the coordinated output strategy of peak shaving and frequency regulation. The obtained further comparative analysis results and the life cycle economic analysis show that the profit brought by the proposed coordinated output optimization strategy is greater than that for separate peak shaving or frequency modulation of energy storage under the same capacity.

How to consider the impact of load substitution on user-side participating in multi-energy trading on system operation when configuring multi-type energy storage (MES) is an urgent problem that needs to be solved to improve the economics and energy efficiency of the integrated energy systems (IES). This paper presents an optimal configuration method of MES considering multi-energy trading with load substitution based on the characteristics of different energy supply seasons. Firstly, the multi-energy trading framework and MES configuration principle are proposed based on the structure of the IES. Secondly, a MES optimal configuration model for IES considering multi-energy trading with load substitution is established, then the IES trading strategies and MES planning schemes are solved. Finally, the proposed method is verified by an example. The results show that the proposed method reduces the MES configuration cost by 8.9%. It can be seen that the MES configuration method proposed in this paper is helpful to repair the limitations of energy storage configuration research in IES and improve the economic benefits of the system.

This article presents a two-stage optimization model aiming to determine optimal energy mix in distribution networks, i.e., battery energy storage, fuel cell, and wind turbines. It aims to alleviate the impact of high renewable penetration on the systems. To solve the proposed complex optimization model, a standard variant of the dragonfly algorithm (DA) has been improved and then applied to find the optimal mix of distributed energy resources. The suggested improvements are validated before their application. A heuristic approach has also been introduced to solve the second stage problem that determines the optimal power dispatch of battery energy storage as per the size suggested by the first stage. The proposed framework was implemented on a benchmark 33-bus and a practical Indian 108-bus distribution network over different test cases. The proposed model for energy mix and modified DA technique has significantly enhanced the operational performance of the network in terms of average annual energy loss reduction, node voltage profiles, and demand fluctuation caused by renewables.

We analyze the relationship between analysts' earnings forecast errors and Brazilian listed firms’ compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) required disclosure. Through analysis of a panel data, we examine whether the variance in the Brazilian firms’ disclosure compliance levels in the Notes to Financial Statements for 2010 and 2012 affects analysts’ earnings forecast errors for 2011 and 2013, respectively, finding a significant negative relationship between these variables. By performing a compliance level analysis per firm, our study considers whether and to what extent firms effectively disclose as required by IFRS (as “IFRS serious adopters”), distinguishing them from firms that mere formally adopt IFRS (as “IFRS label adopters”), without effectively complying with it. Following other studies, we use four alternative models to measure the disclosure compliance level per firm, and we do not find significant improvement in the firms’ disclosure levels from 2010 to 2012, except if we use the most tolerant model.  By this approach, our research contributes to clarify the impact of IFRS adoption on analysts’ forecast accuracy, as other studies that use only binary variables (analysts’ forecasts before and after IFRS adoption) have found contradictory results. Our findings confirm other studies on the international accounting convergence in other countries, emphasizing that compliance is at least as important as the simply formal IFRS adoption. This corroborates the relevance of enforcement mechanisms to induce firms to better comply with IFRS, thus to better attain the economic benefits expected from its adoption.
