Logistics and transport have become an increasingly important topic in recent years. In this kind of scenario, being able to offer added value to users means an important improvement in the services offered by the different companies. Different actors take part in the process of sending, transportation and collection of the different products through roads, ports and airports. During this process different aspects of security must be taken into account, since an error in one of them can cause major problems for public health, nature or even the economy of a country. With all this in mind, this work proposes a new system that allows us, through the use of wireless technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification, Global Positioning System, Wi-Fi Direct and mobile communication technologies, to automate the process of authentication and tracking of different products and goods. The proposed scheme allows through the use of the cloud the creation of a ubiquitous communications system for monitoring, control and even automation of repositioning orders automatically. In addition, the use of a system based on blockchain allows to carry out the whole process in an optimal way that guarantees the privacy and immutability of the data referring to the transports and merchandise. This work allows to reduce costs and improve the quality of the processes of sending, transport and reception of products for the different companies involved in the supply chain.

Workpiece location is critical to efficiently plan actions downstream in manufacturing processes. In labor-intensive heavy industries, like construction and shipbuilding, multiple stakeholders interact, stack and move workpieces in the absence of any system to log such actions. While track-by-detection approaches rely on sensing technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Global Positioning System (GPS), cluttered environments and stacks of workpieces pose several limitations to their adaptation. These challenges limit the usage of such technology to presenting the last known position of a workpiece with no further guidance on a search strategy. In this work we show that a multi-hypothesis tracking approach that models human reasoning can provide a search strategy based on available observations of a workpiece. We show that inventory tracking problems under uncertainty can be approached like probabilistic inference approaches in localization to detect, estimate and update the belief of the workpiece locations. We present a practical Internet-of-Things (IoT) framework for information collection over which we build our reasoning. We also present the ability of our system to accommodate additional constraints to prune search locations. Finally, in our experiments we show that our approach can provide a significant reduction against the conventional search for missing workpieces, of up to 80% in workpieces to visit and 60% in distance traveled. In our experiments we highlight the critical nature of identifying stacking events and inferring locations using reasoning to aid searches even when direct observation of a workpiece is not available.

ABSTRACTCognitive impairment manifests in changed out-of-home mobility. Until recently, the assessment of outdoor mobility relied on the reports of family care-givers and institutional staff and used observational approaches, activity monitoring or behavioural checklists. This article presents data for 41 mildly demented, mildly cognitively impaired and healthy men and women aged 64–90 years in Tel-Aviv (Israel) who took part in an interdisciplinary project, SenTra, that is studying the outdoor activities of elderly people using advanced tracking technologies and that involves researchers from geography, social work, gerontology, psychology and medicine. The participants were tracked for 28 consecutive days using a location kit that combined a global positioning system (GPS) with radio frequency identification. The high-resolution spatial and temporal data enabled detailed analysis of the differences in the timing and distance of the participants' daily outdoor mobility patterns. It was found that the spatial range of the mobility of elderly people with cognitive impairment is severely restricted, with most out-of-home time spent in close proximity to their residences. We conclude that GPS is an advanced research tool able to understand out-of-home behaviour better than was possible with previous methods.

The biggest problems of the Indian railways are accidents and more delay time. The Internet of Things (IOT) can be used to reduce the effect of above two problems. Many accidents occur because of un-attended railway gates, over speed and improper signaling. The information of trains is not so clear to the railway stations, which leads to delay in trains. In this paper some solutions are proposed, to make the railways better, like automatic gate control, train tracking using Global Positioning System (GPS) and track switching. This can be achieved by IOT along with database management system (DBMS) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Each train is tracked using RFID and information is updated into the DBMS.

Nowadays, the complaints of air passengers about mishandling of luggage are highly noticeable, where the number of passengers are on the increased. In this respect, several research works have been conducted using different technologies, such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Global Positioning System (GPS), Global System for Mobile Communication (GPS), mobile applications, smart watches and QR code. However, none of them safely and effectively considers reclaiming passengers' belongings from the airport baggage handling carousel without the need for human intervention, which in turn increases the number of mishandled bags. Therefore, in this paper we propose a new Airport Luggage Tracker System (ALTS) in order to provide a reliable solution compared with the research works found in the literature. A prototype system based on the proposed design is successfully implemented and tested using Arduino UNO, RFID technology and website application (check-in and check-out at departure lounge and arrival lounge, respectively). Keywords— radio frequency identification (RFID), tracking system (TS), airport luggage tracker system (ALTS).

Abstract- At this time motorcycle theft cases are still often occur plus the increasing use of motorcycle vehicles, motorcycle theft is caused by the lack of a security system on the ignition which only uses keys and key covers, where security systems like this have been understood mostly motorcycle thieves, the necessity of a motorcycle safety system is needed. To overcome this, a Motorcycle Safety System was made using Arduno-based GPS and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to prevent and facilitate the recovery of stolen motor vehicles. The results of this study, the system is made using the Global Positioning System (GPS) as a tool to detect the location of motorcycles, and smart key contacts are added using RFID, SMS gateway and DC-DC Converter.

The authors have been investigating novel ways to apply technology to enhance response to fast-paced, complex, hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incidents. Although there are many uses of Global Positioning System, Radio Frequency Identification, simple radio frequency transmitter/sensor devices, and multitouch display technologies, these technologies have only made their way into the HAZMAT community in limited ways. Based on an investigation of the technology needs of HAZMAT responders, the authors developed an approach to combine these technologies to address the observed safety, situation awareness, and efficiency shortfalls. This article describes the proposed approach and provides the results of an investigation into its acceptance and likely utility. During lowfidelity prototype-based user tests and structured interviews, certified HAZMAT responders gave high scores to the usefulness of the proposed functionality and its likely helpfulness in maintaining safety
