REVISITING SUPRACLAVICULAR ARTERY FLAP FOR HEAD AND NECK ONCOLOGIC RECONSTRUCTION.

Background: Head and neck oncologic resections defects are often difcult to reconstruct and are time consuming. An ideal ap should have qualities of both regional and free ap. Our aim in this study is to compare pros and cons of supraclavicular artery ap in comparison to other available ap. This report is a prospective study of cases that underwent supraclavicular artery ap of which, 5 are males and 3 are females. All cases were of carcinoma of Buccal mucosa. 5 cases were completely successful with no complication. One patient had partial necrosis, o Result: ne another patient had distal marginal necrosis with wound dehiscence and one patient had pus discharge with wound dehiscence and orocutaneous stula. No signicant donor site morbidity is seen. This ap has potential to Conclusion: become gold standard in reconstruction of head and neck defects.

Dog bite avulsion injuries of the head and neck are difficult to manage in pediatric patients. This study assesses the outcomes of using porcine urinary bladder extracellular matrix (UBM) for reconstruction of these complete avulsion injuries. Five male pediatric patients underwent reconstruction using UBM. Two (40%) patients underwent reconstruction of the nose; the other 3 patients underwent reconstruction of the forehead, forehead/glabella, and auricle. The average size of the avulsion defect was 7.0 ± 2.4 cm2. No patient developed wound dehiscence, graft loss, or wound infection. Four (80%) patients received pulsed dye laser treatment to improve wound cosmesis. Use of UBM is a safe and effective reconstructive option after dog bite avulsion injuries of the head and neck. Given the advantages of convenient availability and avoidance of donor site morbidity, UBM can be considered for reconstruction of posttraumatic avulsion injuries or Mohs defects.

Abstract Background Autogenous bone augmentation is the gold standard for the treatment of extended bone defects prior to implantation. Bone augmentation from the zygomatic crest is a valuable option with several advantages, but the current literature for this treatment is scant. The aim of this study was to evaluate the increase in bone volume after locoregional bone augmentation using autogenous bone from the zygomatic alveolar crest as well as the complications and success rate. Results Analysis of the augmented bone volume in seven patients showed a maximum volume gain of 0.97 cm3. An average of 0.54 cm3 of autogenous bone (SD 0.24 cm3; median: 0.54 cm3) was augmented. Implantation following bone augmentation was possible in all cases. Complications occurred in three patients. Conclusion The zygomatic alveolar crest is a valuable donor site for autogenous alveolar onlay grafting in a locoregional area such as the maxillary front. Low donor site morbidity, good access, and its suitable convexity make it a beneficial choice for autogenous bone augmentation.
