Abstract We extend the Lebesgue decomposition of positive measures with respect to Lebesgue measure on the complex unit circle to the non-commutative (NC) multi-variable setting of (positive) NC measures. These are positive linear functionals on a certain self-adjoint subspace of the Cuntz–Toeplitz $C^{\ast }-$algebra, the $C^{\ast }-$algebra of the left creation operators on the full Fock space. This theory is fundamentally connected to the representation theory of the Cuntz and Cuntz–Toeplitz $C^{\ast }-$algebras; any *−representation of the Cuntz–Toeplitz $C^{\ast }-$algebra is obtained (up to unitary equivalence), by applying a Gelfand–Naimark–Segal construction to a positive NC measure. Our approach combines the theory of Lebesgue decomposition of sesquilinear forms in Hilbert space, Lebesgue decomposition of row isometries, free semigroup algebra theory, NC reproducing kernel Hilbert space theory, and NC Hardy space theory.

Our aim is to establish the Lebesgue decomposition for strongly-bounded elements in a topological group. In 1963 Richard Darst established a result giving the Lebesgue decomposition of strongly-bounded elements in a normed Abelian group with respect to an algebra of projection operators. Consequently, one can establish the decomposition of strongly-bounded additive functions defined on an algebra of sets. Analagous results follow for lattices of sets. Generalizing some of the techniques yield decompositions for elements in a topological group.

AbstractWe consider special flows over the rotation by an irrational$\alpha $under the roof functions of bounded variation without continuous, singular part in the Lebesgue decomposition and sum of jumps not equal to zero. We show that all such flows are weakly mixing. Under the additional assumption that$\alpha $has bounded partial quotients, we study the weak Ratner property. We establish this property whenever an additional condition (stable under sufficiently small perturbations) on the set of jumps is satisfied. While it is a classical result that the flows under consideration are not mixing, one more condition on the set of jumps turns out to be sufficient to obtain the absence of partial rigidity, hence mild mixing of such flows.

AbstractWe offer a Lebesgue-type decomposition of a representable functional on a *-algebra into absolutely continuous and singular parts with respect to another. Such a result was proved by Zs. Szűcs due to a general Lebesgue decomposition theorem of S. Hassi, H.S.V. de Snoo, and Z. Sebestyén concerning non-negative Hermitian forms. In this paper, we provide a self-contained proof of Szűcs' result and in addition we prove that the corresponding absolutely continuous parts are absolutely continuous with respect to each other.
