A simple, green and efficient solventless procedure for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones (and -thiones) from aldehydes, β-ketoesters and urea or thiourea in the presence of catalytic amount of silica-supported P2O5(P2O5/SiO2) at 85 °C is described. Using this method, the title compounds were produced in high yields.

A series of silica supported functionalized ionic liquid catalysts have been prepared and tested in the hydroxylation of aromatics to phenols with H2O2 under solvent-free conditions. The properties of the heterogeneous catalytic system were studied by tuning various reaction parameters including selection of catalyst, amount of the catalyst, influences of reaction time and temperature. Among the catalysts, CuCl3-IL-SiO2 exhibited the highest efficiency in the hydroxylation of aromatics to phenols under the optimized condition along with good recycle performance.

The elimination of volatile organic solvents in organic synthesis is the most important goal in “Green” chemistry. We report a simple, efficient and facile method for the addition of progargyl bromide to carbonyl compounds using Mg metal as a mediator under solvent-free conditions which could regioselectively generate homopropargyl alcohols efficiently in good to excellent yields. The procedure has advantages such as short reaction time, operationally simple, excellent product yields, high regioselectivity and organic solvent-free.
