The purpose of this chapter is to share a process to compose a mission for a business program, conceiving it as an aspirational quest, where mindful and critical methods are invoked. By proposing a set of sensitizing questions, organized in a comprehensive matrix, the author argues about the importance of discovering insights, promoting critiques and formulating transformative intentions in business education. After adopting a set of comprehensive goals, some logics of change are explored, and ulteriorly, a mission statement in presented.

The study critically examines available perspectives to morality in business. It observes that each of the perspectives to morality in business may seem plausible; the reality of business clearly indicates that morality is intrinsic in the purposes and existence of business. The study further observes that the functional activities of business are pre-supposedly subjects of moral value judgment. The study posits that efforts should rather focus on discussions and concerns on moral benchmarks for sustainable business practices in view of emerging socio-cultural and global dynamics. It concludes that appropriate synthesis of perspectives is the way to go in order to enhance business education among students and practitioners in Nigeria.

This article proposes a new framework for designing business education programs which combines behavioral and business competencies to provide students, through experiential learning, with the tools necessary to succeed in their career paths and actively participate in the economic and societal development of diverse communities. The authors develop the framework by applying elements from the methodology for building conceptual frameworks in multidisciplinary contexts based on grounded theory. The framework, holistic in nature, is composed of the design process and the corresponding supporting elements and processes needed to foster an entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial behavior, including emotion and inspiration, in students who will engage in differing roles when they graduate. It promotes a responsive curriculum with a sharp focus on pedagogy as well as the process of curriculum implementation from mission statement to outcomes assessment.

AbstractThe paper explores the relationship between family businesses (FB), communities of practice (CoP), and entrepreneurship education in the context of the knowledge production and sharing within and between these communities. The relationship between these three spheres of knowledge is presented from a transdisciplinary point of view. The contextual legitimacy identifies the communicational channels between the fields of family businesses and the communities of practice and entrepreneurial education in a transdisciplinary generative synergistic context. The notion of CoP suggests that organizational community boundaries do not correspond with typical functional boundaries, including practice - and person - based networks, while family businesses underlie the necessity of sustainable business education which can be achieved through collaborative interaction in a creative entrepreneurial framework. The paper proposes to find the common ground of the three fields of knowledge and the way these points develop new knowledge windows towards a new entrepreneurial understanding of life, and generating new alternatives.
