At present, parameterized design and feature modeling are the two main developing direction of CAD. Integrating feature modeling with parameterized technology is the effective method and measure to 3D design and modeling, which product feature is modeled by parameter. According to it’s characteristic, feature of shaft part is classified and described concretely, and feature information model is established in this paper. Feature modeling method and parameterized feature modeling technology of shaft part are studied and parameterized feature modeling module based on UG NX for shaft part is developed.

Bolted joints structures exist in modern mechanical system, it is difficult to simulate the characteristics of the bolted joints accurately and effectively because of their complexity and diversity, which bring a great challenge to the whole structure modeling. Based on theoretical derivation of the bolted joints mechanical characteristics, the parameterized simulation technology and modeling method was used to equivalent simulate the bolted joints and with the example of a certain type of modern turbofan engine to elaborate the application of the parameterized modeling method. The research results have shown that the parameterized modeling method can not only simulate the true characteristics of bolted joints but also can improve calculation efficiency and saving computing cost effectively.

Feature modeling technology is the requirement of Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT). It is one of the key technologies of CAD/CAPP/CAM integrated system to build a shared part feature model. A feature modeling system can provide not only the geometry information of a part, but also the processing information of the part, which is needed by the latter CAM system, to realize information share and exchange between CAX systems. In the paper, feature concept, feature classification, model structure and modeling method based on features are introduced. Then, an interactive feature modeling method is presented. According to the requirement of CAPP, the system developed can supply the processing information to generate the corresponding manufacturing feature model that can be output in XML file format for a CAPP system.

When using the formed milling cutter to machine workpiece, the formed parts are cut by the milling with formed shape, so forms correspond to workpiece outline. In the 3D design software--SolidWorks, the relation of position of the workpiece profile and the milling each other is simulated. This project uses the function of 3D-shape of software to complete the 3D-entity-design of formed milling cutter profile and the drawing of rake face, thus designing the rake face profile directly, with the results of a great improvement on the design and machining quality and effectiveness.
