The effect of incoherency of seismic waves and wave travel on the displacement and force response of jacket structure are investigated from the maximum force, reaction force, the displacement, and so on. The conclusions illustrate it is necessary to consider the effect of multiple support excitation. The research of the differences of seismic response under multiple support excitation from uniform excitation presents the theoretical foundation on aseismatic projects for long span space structures such as jacket.

With the development of demand of exploiting offshore oil reserves, the Jacket platform structure’ span and depth is more and more large, so the seismic analysis of the jacket structure will become more and more complicated. In the dynamic analysis of long-span structures, multiple support excitation may be accounted is necessary. For big jacket structure, it is more accurate and reasonable by multiple support excitation than by uniform excitation. The objective of the research described herein is to develop a simplified method to investigate the effect of multiple support excitation on the jacket structure.

According to the seismic performance of cable-stayed bridge with a project example, using finite element analysis method, establishing the space beam element and link element calculation model, the dynamic characteristic and the seismic response of the cable-stayed bridge with selected three earthquake waves were calculated, the results were compared with the of the response spectrum method. The results show that:the semi-floating system of cable-stayed bridge is great flexibility, the vibration cycle is generally longer; the results by using the response spectrum method are smaller; the cable-stayed bridge should be calculated in accordance with the specific circumstances of the project with multiple seismic waves.

In order to determine the calculational model of long span transmission tower structure under the multiple support excitation, tower-lines system are adopted. Seismic Performance of long span transmission tower lines system under Multiple Support Excitation were studied by time history analysis method. The seismic response difference of two kinds of excitation is analyzed from Dynamic Characteristics and the number of dangerous bar. It will offer the theory data for the seismic design of the kind of structure. Through analysis, the seismic response difference of the two kinds excitation is correlative to the apparent velocity; Therefore long span transmission tower structure should be considered the effect of multiple support excitation, otherwise the conclusion will be inclined to conservative or risk. Key words: tower lines system; seismic response; time history analysis, multiple support excitation

In view of huge destructibility of the near-fault ground motions, structures with long natural vibration period are liable to fall into nonlinear reaction stage. Based on a full understanding of the near-fault seismic spectrum characteristics, the out-of-plane seismic response of a long span concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) arch bridge was studied in depth, and the research result could offer a reference for near-fault aseismic design.

Elasto-plastic analysis of seismic responses of valve hall structures were carried out by using finite element software, and the effect of seismic waves on the seismic responses of the valve hall structures and suspension equipments were studied. Results show that significant torsional responses of the structure can be found under longitudinal and 3D earthquake actions. Under 3D earthquake actions, the seismic responses of the suspension valves are much more significant than those under 1D earthquake actions, the maximum tensile force of the suspenders is about twice of that under 1D action. The seismic responses of the suspension valves under vertical earthquake actions are much stronger than those under horizontal earthquake actions, when suffering strong earthquake actions; the maximum vertical acceleration of the suspension valves is about 4 times of that under horizontal earthquake actions. It is recommended that the effects of 3D earthquake actions on the structure should be considered in seismic response analysis of the valve hall structure.

Although post-earthquake observations identified spatial variation of ground motion (i.e., multiple-support excitation) as a frequent cause of the unfavorable response of long-span bridges, this phenomenon is often not taken into account in seismic design to simplify the calculation procedure. This study investigates the influence of multiple-support excitation accounting for coherency loss and wave-passage effects on the seismic response of reinforced concrete deck arch bridges of long spans founded on rock sites. Parametric numerical study was conducted using the time-history method, the response spectrum method, and a simplified procedure according to the European seismic standards. Results showed that multiple-support excitation had a detrimental influence on response of almost all analyzed bridges regardless of considered arch span. Both considered spatial variation effects, acting separately or simultaneously, proved to be very important, with their relative significance depending on the response values and arch locations analyzed and seismic records used. Therefore, it is suggested that all spatially variable ground-motion effects are taken into account in seismic analysis of similar bridges.
