Three different chiral ionic liquids, chloride (R)-(+)-β-(1-methyl-imidazole)–propio-nate, (R)-(+)-β-(1-methyl-imidazole)-propionate terafluoroborate and hexafluorophosphate, weresuccessfully synthesized via the nucleophilic substitution reaction and the anion metathesis reaction, with (S)-(-)-2-chloro-propionic acid as the chiral source. Structures of the chiral io-nic liquids have been characterized by the infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonancespectroscopy and quantum chemical structure optimization method. These new ionic materia-ls can be used as building blocks for the synthesis of ionic liquids.

Three kinds of functionalized imidazolium ionic liquid, 1-chloride (2-hydroxyethyl) -3-methyl imidazole ionic liquid [HeMIM]Cl, 1-bromide ethylamine-3-methyl imidazolium ionic liquid [AeMIM]Br and chlorinated 1-carboxyethyl-3-methyl imidazolium ionic liquid [CeMIM]Cl, were synthesized firstly. Subsequently, three kinds of supported silicon imidazolium ionic liquids were prepared from above ionic liquids with tetraethoxysilane by sol-gel method. The Chemical structure and crystal structure of the supported on silica based ionic liquids were analyzed by FTIR and XRD.

Two new imidazole ionic liquid salts, 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([AMIM]Cl) and 1-allyl-3-methy-imidazolium hydrogen sulfate ([EMIM]HSO4), were synthesized with direct synthesis and two-step synthesis method, using a viscosity meter, PH meter, conductivity meter, densitometer, infrared spectrometer determined its chemical structure and properties. The results show that two ionic liquids in the range is slightly different, the trend is roughly same. As the temperature increases, the viscosity decreases, PH gradually increased, the density decreases slightly, can be regarded as constant, the conductivity gradually increased. Ionic liquids of the two IR spectra analysis show its structure and synthetic route consistent with the structure of matter.

This study concerned a novel super-molecular ionic liquid synthesized by ammonium thiocyanate and caprolactam. The physical characters such as melting point and electric conductivity were investigated. Results showed that the melting point is -12.2°C at the molar ratio of 3:1 (caprolactam/ammonium thiocyanate), which is much lower than raw materials. The electric conductivities of synthesized ionic liquids were close to that of imidazole ILs. The structure of ionic liquid was characterized by IR,1HNMR and quantum chemical calculations. It was shown that the NH4+cation connected with caprolactam organic molecules by hydrogen bonds, leading to the forming of a super-molecular ion. The electrostatic attraction of super-molecular ion with anion was decreased because of the larger volume of super-molecular ion than original cation, thus the melting point decreased. The key properties that distinguish super-molecular ionic liquid from other ILs were the presence of supermolecular ion, which can be used to build up a hydrogen-bonded network. This type ion liquid was named as super-molecular ion liquid.
