Chinese concept of landscape design originates from Chinese traditional culture, which is based on the basic framework integrating Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism and embodied in the design of many classic ancient landscapes. However, spiritual culture is seriously missing in Chinese modern landscape construction, which affects landscape design and shaping. It is urgent to restore spiritual culture in modern landscape design. The development of landscape design shall give more priority to the harmony of human, culture and the nature, and emphasize Chinese spiritual culture in modern landscape design. Only those landscape designs that embody the connotation of Chinese spiritual culture can have real vitality, and only those designs that embody the features of Chinese spiritual culture can actually give people spiritual comfort and a sense of belonging. Giving priority to creating and presenting spiritual culture and images of Chinese landscape and seeking for landscape designs that present Chinese features is the path for innovative development of Chinese landscape design.

General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward in the report of the Nineteenth National Congress a new era topic of creative transformation and innovative development of Chinese traditional culture, which put forward higher requirements for the modernization of Chinese traditional culture. The modernization of traditional culture has always been an important part of building a socialist modernization country in an all-round way, but in the process of modernization, cultural modernization, especially the modernization of traditional Chinese culture, has been shackled. Cultural industry, especially cultural creative industry, is an important model for the development of cultural modernization. Its development course provides an important experience for the modernization of Chinese traditional culture. Starting from the symbol cultural creative industry of the Palace Museum, this paper analyses the process of innovative development and creative transformation of Chinese traditional culture, focusing on the realistic dilemma of Chinese traditional culture. What is it, how to develop the modernization of Chinese traditional culture and how to guarantee the modernization of Chinese traditional culture are discussed in order to promote the modernization of Chinese traditional culture.

In recent years, the problems of environmental pollution and resource shortage have increased year by year, and the topic of sustainable development has aroused widespread concern. The simple sustainable ideas in Chinese traditional culture have made important contributions to the harmonious coexistence between people and nature in ancient China. By analyzing China’s simple sustainable ideas, the author discovered the holistic view in the idea of ‘Nature and Humanity’, the frugal view of the ‘Using wisely’ idea, the concept of benevolence in the thought of ‘love of all people and all things’, the ecological view in the thought of ‘things are not endless’ and the view of life in the thought of ‘Taoism follows nature’, these five perspectives provide systematic sustainable ideas for modern furniture. This article will analyze these five ideas, combined with the development of contemporary society and the development of modern sustainable ideas, looking back on the current status of modern furniture design, so as to explore the specific application of modern furniture design under the simple sustainable ideas and provide new ideas for the sustainable design of modern furniture.
