Research on the Panel Fabrication for the Field Emission Display with Double Strip Emitters

With high effective screen-printing process, the field emission display panel with double stripe emitters was fabricated and their good field emission property was also characterized. Using sintered silver slurry with better electric conduction property as material, the cathode electrode including two parts was formed. The top cathode electrode was made up of two silver stripes, which the carbon nanotube material would reside on its surface. The bottom cathode electrode was separated by the cathode separate layer with the top cathode electrode, but the electric-connection would be performed between them through the preformed round holes. Using carbon nanotube as cathode, the field emission display panel with double stripe emitters was demonstrated.

In this study, a 10"-sized panel with novel tetrode structure was tried to prevent broadening of electrons emitted from CNTs. The structure of the novel tetrode is composed of CNT emitters on a cathode electrode, a gate electrode, an extracting electrode coated on the top of a hopping electron spacer (HES), and an anode. HES contains funnel-shaped holes whose inner surfaces are coated with MgO. Electrons extracted through the gate are collected inside the funnel-shaped holes and hop along the hole surface to the top extracting electrode. The effects of HES on emission characteristics of field emission display (FED) were investigated. An active ozone treatment for the complete removal of residues of organic binders in the emitter devices was applied to the FED panel as a post-treatment

Using black insulation slurry as manufacture material, the high emitter-isolating-layer was fabricated on the cathode plate. The high emitter-isolating-layer which possessed good insulation performance was composed of many parallel emitter-isolation-stripes, which the bottom cathode electrode would be exposed in the center of the emitter-isolation-stripe. The carbon nanotube paste was prepared onto the cathode plate to form the field emitters. And the field emission display panel with high emitter-isolating-layer was demonstrated, which the better field emission property including the large emission current and stable electron emission was confirmed.

With screen-printing method, the diode field emission display panel was fabricated. On the cathode back plane, the cross-like cathode electrode structure was developed for improving the field emission properties of field emission display panel. The prepared carbon nanotubes were utilized to form the electron emission sources, and the necessary cathode potential for the carbon nanotube cathode could be conducted by the indium tin oxide stripe. Seen from the fabrication pattern, the divided indium tin oxide stripe was cross-like, but the fabrication surface for the single carbon nanotube cathode pixel was circular. The whole field emission display panel possessed good field emission characteristics.
