Finite element method is widely used in every field, in which ABAQUS is a typical product. For engineers and researchers, SHAKE91 is a good choice for seismic safety evaluation. For developing seismic response analysis for complicated cases, finite element method approach should be explored. An elastic layered model is built, which is calculated in SHAKE91 and ABAQUS respectively. The results of the two programs fitted well, which implies the correctness of the ABAQUS model. In the elastic model, simple boundary condition works well. In the future, more complex boundaries and dynamic constitutive models should be studied.

In this study, the framework for the seismic response analysis of oil-storage tank along fault-structure system concept has been presented; where the long period ground motion simulation and sloshing simulation based on 3D finite element method (FEM) is integrated. Three dimensional finite element model is constructed using multi-resolution structured and unstructured mesh for the ground motion prediction. For the sloshing analysis Lagrangian Finite Element Method is used. Also the effect of surface topography on the sloshing response is checked and the effect is found to be significant.

The storage tank plays a more and more important role in economic construction and the development. It always stores inflammable, explosive medium. The consequences are very serious, when the earthquake disaster occurs. In this paper, we build models of model tank and 20,000 m3 tanks with the finite element method, and analyze their seismic response between the former structure and the isolatied structure. We wish that the research can provide fundamental data for the similar studies.
