Research on Shape Detecting System of Cold Rolling Strip

Comprehensive considered actual working conditions of cold rolling mill, a high precision shape detecting system of cold rolling strip was developed to meet industrial application. Consideration to both follow-up processing technology requirements, dynamic flatness standard curves could be formulated according to different rolling conditions and product specifications, and reliable shape datum were provided for close-loop shape control. This system was successfully used in Angang 1250 mm HC 6-high reversible cold rolling mill. Then the shape index and the quality stability of cold rolling strip were increased significantly, the errors between the calculated values and measured values of the total tension were less than 3%, the precision of shape detecting is 0.2 I and shape indices was within 6 I after the close-loop shape control was input.

Based on the shape detecting principle and the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology, a high-precision shape detecting system of cold rolling strip is developed to meet industrial application. It was successfully used in Angang 1250 mm HC 6-high reversible cold rolling mill. The precision of shape detecting was 0.2 I, the shape deviation was controlled within 6 I after the close loop shape control was input.

Shape has a significant impact on the good quality of follow-up deep-processed steel products. But it is difficult to detect, so a shape detecting equipment of cold rolling strip is developed to meet industrial application, which mainly consist of the shape detecting roller, the collecting ring, the DSP shape signal processing board and the shape control model. The shape detecting system was successfully used in 1250 mm HC 6-high reversible cold rolling mill. The precision of shape detecting is 0.2 I.

In order to analyze the flatness control characteristics for a certain UCMW (Universal Crown Mill with Work roll shifting) cold rolling mill, combined with the actual parameters in the field, a static simulation model of the quarter roll systems of the UCMW cold rolling mill was established by the ANSYS finite element software. The bearing roll gaps under the factors of the unit width rolling force, the roll bending force and the roll shift were calculated, which reflects the shape control characteristics and has a great influence on the friction and lubrication characteristics between the roll gaps. Additionally, the shape control strategy of the process parameters in the field was put forward. The results show that, at first, the work roll shift is the most effective shape control means, while the current-used range of the intermediate roll shift cannot make full use of the roll end contour of the intermediate roll, so the intermediate roll negative shift should be considered for shape control. At second, the excessive rolling force goes against the shape control, so the rolling force of each stand should be reasonably distributed. Finally, the shape control ability of the bending force is relatively weak, so the range of the work roll bending force should be appropriately increased.

In the process of measuring the shape of the cold rolling strip, by combining proportion compensation with slope compensation, the signal error of edge shape should be compensated reasonably. In addition, corresponding solutions are proposed to solve the channel signal loss or the discontinuous transverse shape value which takes place occasionally in the shape measuring roller. These solutions could improve the stability of shape measuring signal, avoid serious accidents of controlling mill caused by abnormal shape signals and achieve reliable shape control without worries

In modern cold rolling, strip exit velocities of the order of thousands of feet per minute are employed. Even if only moderate reductions of the strip are performed, large amounts of heat are generated due to deformation and friction. This work presents a mathematical formulation of the problem of the temperature in the roll bite as strain rate is varied (due to Cerni), as well as some calculated examples using a typical small rolling mill. The possible influence of the temperature generated on the rolling process is also considered.

Edge-drop control enlarges the shape control theories and technologies. But compared to the profile and flatness control technology, the edge drop control is a developing topic. This paper analyze the influence of strip thickness, strip width, reduction ratio, friction coefficient and deformation resistance on the edge drop based on the elastic deformation of rolls and the three-dimensional plastic deformation of strip for UCMW cold rolling mill. The results will support the further research on the edge drop control for cold rolling mill.

When wrapping angle of cold strip covering surface of shape detecting roll dynamically changes, online radial pressure of the shape detecting roll is changed too, and it seriously affects online shape detecting precision of cold strip. The cold strip online dynamic wrapping angle compensation model is established, and successfully applied in 1250 mm 6-high cold mill, remarkable results is achieved. The error between calculated values and measured values of total tensions is within 3%.
