♂. Allied to A. bicarnea Guen,; smaller and distinguishable by the evenness of the t. p. line. Fore wings dead brownish black. T. a. line rigidly oblique to submedian fold, not rounded as in its ally, and with a less prominent tooth on internal margin. A very faint yellowish shading to the line and also on the costa at inception of t. p. line, where A. bicarnea is strongly marked with carneous. T. p. line shaped as in its ally, but even, geminate, the inner line not scalloped; the component lines include a pale shading.

Four species of Arthothelium from Africa and Socotra are described as new to science: Arthothelium atrorubrum from Madagascar, characterized by irregularly rounded blackish ascomata with a deeply red hypothecium and submuriform ascospores; Arthothelium aurantiacopruinosum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, characterized by black, irregularly rounded to stellate, orange pruinose ascomata and muriform ascospores with two larger terminal cells; Arthothelium frischianum from Madagascar, characterized by brownish-black minute irregular ascomata with remnants of thallus and muriform ascospores with one larger terminal cell; Arthothelium miesii from Socotra (Yemen), characterized by a thick thallus, immersed, stellate to cerebriform, brownish, greyish pruinose ascomata and submuriform ascospores. A key to all reported species of Arthothelium from tropical Africa (South Africa excluded) and Socotra is provided.

Triangularia backusii n. sp. was isolated from a soil sample collected in Ohio, U.S.A., and was subjected to alcohol treatment. Triangularia backusii is characterized by oval to pyriform perithecia, elongate-clavate asci, and obovoid ascospores with hyaline, gelatinous appendages. The ascospores are two-celled with a transverse septum; the upper cell is obovoid with a truncate base and brownish black to black and the lower cell is triangular and pale brown to brown. The conidial state is assignable to the genus Phialophora. The new species differs from other known Triangularia species in having the largest ascospores.

Peridroma canities n. sp. – Form and markings of the Texan P. annexa, but of a different, dusty gray, colour and a little shorter winged. Primaries dusty gray, with a slight dusky shading along costa, against which the pale dots, marking inception of transverse lines, are relieved. T.p. line tolerably distinct, indentate interspaceally, with included pale shade. Veins marked with fuscous. T. a. line double, with a strong outward inflection above internal margin. Claviform blunt, filled in with fuscous. Orbicular with central dot. Reniform moderate,filled in with fuscous. Cell slightly darker shaded. Marking inconspicuous, concolorous. Hind wings (♀) white.

A new species of Carex sect. Rhomboidales, Carex concava, is described and illustrated from Hainan, China. The new species is similar to C. paracheniana but differs in having wider blades and longer sheaths of bracts; inflorescence with 3 spikes; terminal spike 2–6 cm long and with a 4–14 cm long peduncle; lateral spikes 3–6 cm long, loosely flowered and with 8–15 cm long peduncles; staminate glume ovate, 1-veined costa excurrent into a shortly awn ca. 0.3 mm; pistillate glume ovate, ca. 4 mm long, 1-veined costa excurrent into a awn ca. 1 mm; perigynia fusiform and green; nutlets inclined-oval, brownish black, with 3 angles deeply constricted at the middle and the side toward of spike-stalk deeply concave at base.

A new species of colubrid snake, Lycodon cathayasp. nov., is described based on two adult male specimens collected from Huaping Nature Reserve, Guangxi, southern China. In a phylogenetic analyses, the new species is shown to be a sister taxon to the clade composed of L. futsingensis and L. namdongensis with low statistical support, and can be distinguished from all known congeners by the significant genetic divergence in the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene fragment (p-distance ≥ 7.9%), and morphologically by the following combination of characters: (1) dorsal scales in 17–17–15 rows, smooth throughout; (2) supralabials eight, third to fifth in contact with eye, infralabials nine; (3) ventral scales 199–200 (plus two preventral scales), subcaudals 78; (4) loreal single, elongated, in contact with eye or not, not in contact with internasals; (5) a single preocular not in contact with frontal, supraocular in contact with prefrontal, two postoculars; (6) maxillary teeth 10 (4+2+2+2); (7) two anterior temporals, three posterior temporals; (8) precloacal plate entire; (9) ground color from head to tail brownish black, with 31–35 dusty rose bands on body trunk, 13–16 on tail; (10) bands in 1–2 vertebral scales broad in minimum width; (11) bands separate ground color into brownish black ellipse patches arranged in a row along the top of body and tail; (12) elliptical patches in 3–6 scales of the vertebral row in maximum width; (13) ventral surface of body with wide brownish black strip, margined with a pair of continuous narrow greyish white ventrolateral lines. With the description of the new species, 64 congeners are currently known in the genus Lycodon, with 16 species occurring in China.

Two new species of the damselfly genus Euphaea Selys, 1840 (Odonata: Euphaeidae) are described from the Western Ghats of Satara District, Maharashtra, distinguished by their distinct morphology and coloration. E. thosegharensis Sadasivan & Bhakare sp. nov. is similar to E. cardinalis (Fraser, 1924), but is distinguished by the extensor and flexor surface of all femora black while all femora bright red in E. cardinalis; apical fourth of Hw black while apical half of Hw black in E. cardinalis; genae reddish-orange, black in E. cardinalis; a tuft of sparse stub black hair on either side of tergite of S9 while both S8 and S9 with tufts of long ventral hairs in E. cardinalis.  Male genital vesicle matt black, with distal border rounded angles, while vesicle black and hexagonal in shape with rounded angles in E. cardinalis and S9 twice the length of S10, while S9 and S10 of equal length in E. cardinalis. E. pseudodispar Sadasivan & Bhakare sp. nov., is very close to E. dispar (Rambur, 1842), but is differentiated easily by the absence of yellow patch on legs as in E. dispar; only apical fifth of Hw black; genae being yellowish-white, while black in E. dispar; male genital vesicle brownish-black & rhomboid-shaped and with no transverse rugosities while black with distal border rounded and with fine transverse rugosities in E. dispar; penis with single seta on each side while E. dispar has three pairs; sternite of S9 very prominently extending ventrally like a beak in comparison with E. dispar.  We have identified additional morphological characters useful in taxonomy of Euphaea of the Western Ghats for example, tufts of ventral hairs on terminal abdominal segments genital vesicle, penile structure of males and sternite of S9 in the males, and vulvar scales of females.  A taxonomic key to all known species of genus Euphaea of the Western Ghats is also provided.

Based on molecular phylogenetic analyses and morphological characters, a new species from Bangladesh, northern Vietnam, and southwestern China, Leptolejeunea nigra, is described. It is mostly similar to L. balansae but remarkable for having brownish black ocelli in its leaf lobes. In the molecular phylogeny, the samples of L. nigra are not nested within any clade and form an independent lineage. In particular, the molecular dating suggested that the divergence of L. nigra happened in time span of the formation of the Himalayas.

Simulium (Gomphostilbia) kumbakkaraiense sp. n. is described based on adults, pupae and mature larvae from Kumbakkarai stream, in the Palani Hills of Western Ghats, South India. This new species is placed in the Simulium batoense species-group of the subgenus Gomphostilbia Enderlein. This new species is characterized by a scutum with three brownish-black longitudinal vittae and hind basitarsus in the female 5.3 times as long as wide, and in male the large facets of the upper eye in 13 vertical columns and 14 horizontal rows, the respiratory gill with short common basal in the pupa and postgenal cleft arrow-head-shaped in the larva. A new species of Carex sect. Mitratae, C. ledongensis, is described and illustrated from Hainan, South China. The new species is similar to C. pseudotristachya but differs from the latter in its leaves much longer than culms, inflorescence with 3 spikes, terminal spike with 1.5 cm long peduncle, lateral spikes bisexual, perigynia fusiform, 6–8 mm long, and nutlets brownish black, 5–6 mm long.

Dipcadi janae-shrirangii is described and illustrated as a new species from the lateritic plateaus of Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. The new species is allied to the D. concanense (Dalzell) Baker, but differ in its small flowers and perianth tube as long as the lobes. Coloured photographs, illustrations of new species and key to the Indian species of Dipcadi having shiny white flowers and brownish black seeds are provided to facilitate the identification.
