This paper describes the benefit obtained from implementing a cutting tool management system. Also, a state of the art on tool management systems available on the market is presented. By analysing the drawbacks generated by the implementation of such a system, we are providing a cheap and practical solution: an Augmented Reality aided machining and tool management system. Using augmented reality we managed to improve the tool management systems by providing, at the scene of action, all the necessary tool information in a much more user friendly way.

Due to the lack of realtime and accurate collection of status and position information of tools, the management of tools in a factory is always not efficient enough. In this paper, the architecture of RFID-enabled tool management system is proposed first, and a tool coding scheme based on EPCgloble is introduced later. RFID middleware for tool management with key features and its components are described afterwards. The system is developed on ASP.NET platform, and experiments show that the new tool management system improves the data collection and automation of tool management.

Tool management is an important research topic in the field of advanced manufacturing technology. At present, the existing tool management system can’t track tool real-time state and information in the whole course of using. This paper puts forward a new kind of tool management system for optimizing the process of tool resource, which is managed based on the Web and two dimensional barcode technology. The whole life cycle of information for the tools is tracked and managed in this system, and finally realized the sharing
