Sinusoidal shear deformation theory is presented to analyze the natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates. The governing differential equations based on sinusoidal theory are solved by a Navier-type analytical method. The present results are compared with the available published results which verify the accuracy of sinusoidal theory.

In this study, the free vibration of laminated composite plates with and without stiffeners subjected to axial loads is carried out using finite element method. The plates are stiffened by laminated composite strip and Timoshenko beam. The plates and the strips are modeled with rectangular 9 noded isoparametric quadratic elements with three degrees of freedom per node and the Timoshenko beam is modeled with linear 2 noded isoparametric quadratic elements with 2 degrees of freedom per node. The effects of both shear deformation and rotary inertia are implemented in the modeling of plate and stiffener. The governing differential equations are obtained in terms of the mid-plane displacement components and shear rotations using Hamilton’s principle. The effects of axial tension and compression loads and stiffeners on the natural frequencies of the plate are investigated. Results indicate the tension loads and stiffeners will increase the natural frequencies while the compression loads reduce the natural frequencies. The buckling force of plate is computed by increasing the absolute value of compressive force until the first natural frequency tends to zero. Results of simple cases are compared with finding in the literature and a good agreement was achieved.

In this paper, natural frequencies of laminated composite plates were studied. The layerwise finite element model is imposed to determine the natural frequencies of laminated composite plates. The effects of panel orientation angle, elastic modulus ratio and width-depth ratio on the natural frequencies of the laminated composite are then discussed. With an example of a sixteen-laying laminated plate, the numerical simulations show that the factor of key structural parameters to the natural frequencies of the laminated composite plate is panel orientation angle and width-depth ratio.

Natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates are calculated by the meshless global collocation method based on Gaussian radial basis function. The accuracy of meshless global radial basis function collocation method depends on the choice of shape parameter of radial basis function. In present paper, the shape parameter of Gaussian radial basis function is optimized using the genetic algorithm. Gaussian radial basis function with optimal shape parameter is utilized to analyze the natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates. The present results are compared with the results of available literatures which verify the accuracy of present method.

Free vibration of simply laminated composite plates is studied by the global collocation method based on inverse multiquadrics radial basis function. The choice of shape parameter of radial basis function has the important effect on the accuracy of meshless radial basis function collocation method. Genetic algorithm is used to optimize the shape parameter of inverse multiquadrics radial basis function. The natural frequencies of simply supported laminated composite plates are calculated using the inverse multiquadrics radial basis function with optimal shape parameter and compared with the analytical solutions.

In the present paper we used the global Gaussian collocation method and trigonometric shear deformation theory to analyze free vibration of laminated composite plates. Natural frequencies computed by the present method are found to agree well with those from some available published results.
