This article describes the development of the Hermite method of approximate particular solutions (MAPS) to solve time-dependent convection-diffusion-reaction problems. Using the Crank-Nicholson or the Adams-Moulton method, the time-dependent convection-diffusion-reaction problem is converted into time-independent convection-diffusion-reaction problems for consequent time steps. At each time step, the source term of the time-independent convection-diffusion-reaction problem is approximated by the multiquadric (MQ) particular solution of the biharmonic operator. This is inspired by the Hermite radial basis function collocation method (RBFCM) and traditional MAPS. Therefore, the resultant system matrix is symmetric. Comparisons are made for the solutions of the traditional/Hermite MAPS and RBFCM. The results demonstrate that the Hermite MAPS is the most accurate and stable one for the shape parameter. Finally, the proposed method is applied for solving a nonlinear time-dependent convection-diffusion-reaction problem.

In the current workflow and heat exchange of a Casson nanoliquid across a penetrable media above a moving plate with variable thermal conductivity, adaptive thickness and chemical reaction are analyzed. First, the governing nonlinear equations of partial derivative terms with proper extreme conditions are changed into equations of ordinary derivative terms with suitable similarity conversions. Then the resulting equations are worked out using the Keller box method. The effects of various appropriate parameters are analyzed by constructing the visual representations of velocity, thermal, and fluid concentration. The velocity profile increased for shape parameter, and the opposite trend is observed for magnetic, Casson, porosity parameters. Temperature profile increases for magnetic, Casson, Brownian motion parameter, and thermophoresis parameters. Concentration profiles show a decreasing trend for wall thickness, Brownian movement, chemical reaction parameters. Also, skin friction values and calculated and matched with previous literature found in accordance. Also, local parameters Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are calculated and analyzed in detail.

A study of the distribution of the value of traded goods under the Harmonized System is presented. The ramifications of this classification system are found to exhibit an approximate power law decay, indicating complexity and self-organization in the nomenclature of traded merchandises. For almost all countries with available data, log-values of annually imported and exported goods are well described by three-parameter Weibull distributions. This distribution commonly appears in particles size distributions, suggesting a connection between random fragmentation processes and the mechanisms behind the international trade of merchandises. Analysis of the resulting values for the fitting parameters from 1995 to 2018 shows a nearly constant linear relationship between the parameters of the Weibull distributions, so that, for each country, the distribution of log-values can be approximately characterized by a single shape parameter [Formula: see text]. The empirical findings of this paper suggest that specialization on trading a constant set of goods prevents the values of all traded merchandises from growing/decreasing simultaneously.

In this study, wave spectrum data were calculated using the water surface elevation data observed at 5Hz intervals from the HeMOSU-2 meteorological tower installed on the west coast of Korea, and wave parameters were estimated using wave spectrum data. For all significant wave height ranges, the peak enhancement parameter (γ opt ) of the JONSWAP spectrum and the scale parameter (α) and shape parameter (β) of the modify BM spectrum were estimated based on the observed spectrum, and the distribution of each parameter was confirmed. As a result of the analysis, the peak enhancement parameter (γ opt ) of the JONSWAP spectrum was calculated to be 1.27, which is very low compared to the previously proposed 3.3. And in the range of all significant wave heights, the distribution of the peak enhancement parameter (γ opt ) was shown as a combined distribution of probability mass function (PMF) and probability density function (PDF). In addition, the scale parameter (α) and shape parameter (β) of the modify BM spectrum were estimated to be [0.245, β1.278], which are lower than the existing [0.300, -1.098], and the result of the linear correlation analysis between the two parameters was β = =3.86α.

Raindrop size distribution (RSD) is a key parameter in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model for rainfall estimation, with gamma distribution models commonly used to describe RSD under WRF microphysical parameterizations. The RSD model sets the shape parameter (μ) as a constant of gamma distribution in WRF double-moment bulk microphysics schemes. Here, we propose to improve the gamma RSD model with an adaptive value of μ based on the rainfall intensity and season, designed using a genetic algorithm (GA) and the linear least-squares method. The model can be described as a piecewise post-processing function that is constant when rainfall intensity is <1.5 mm/h and linear otherwise. Our numerical simulation uses the WRF driven by an ERA-interim dataset with three distinct double-moment bulk microphysical parameterizations, namely, the Morrison, WDM6, and Thompson aerosol-aware schemes for the period of 2013–2017 over the United Kingdom at a 5 km resolution. Observations were made using a disdrometer and 241 rain gauges, which were used for calibration and validation. The results show that the adaptive-μ model of the gamma distribution was more accurate than the gamma RSD model with a constant shape parameter, with the root-mean-square error decreasing by averages of 23.62%, 11.33%, and 22.21% for the Morrison, WDM6, and Thompson aerosol-aware schemes, respectively. This model improves the accuracy of WRF rainfall simulation by applying adaptive RSD parameterization and can be integrated into the simulation of WRF double-moment microphysics schemes. The physical mechanism of the RSD model remains to be determined to improve its performance in WRF bulk microphysics schemes.
