This article describes the application of principles applied in the development of a Masters programme in Public Administration in the Netherlands fifteen years ago to the design of a very different programme for senior managers in a UK public bureaucracy. Both programmes placed heavy emphasis upon the role of the manager as learner and on the importance of practical application as the most significant part of the learning process. Rather than teach techniques the development team offered a variety of well established frameworks by means of which participants were encouraged to develop their understanding of themselves, their organisations, their roles within them and the pressures for change arising within the environment of their organisation. The objective was not only to develop areas of managerial competence but, perhaps more significantly, to encourage the higher levels of confidence necessary to managing in an increasingly uncertain and pressured environment. A significant contributor to the achievement of this end was a concentration on those frameworks which had worked effectively in a wide variety of situations and circumstances rather than on more novel and, perhaps, more fashionable approaches.

Purpose. Analysis of the peculiarities of the transition to the concept of lean production of the enterprises of the mining and smelting complex (MMC) of Ukraine, located on the territory of the Dnipropetrovsk region. Prospects for the implementation of these approaches by 2020. Methodology. The article used the methods of questioning and interviewing at the stage of collecting primary information, as well as the method of comparative analysis to substantiate recommendations on the prospects for implementing the concept of lean production for the period until 2020. When writing the article, methods of questioning and interviewing at the stage of collecting primary information were used, as well as a method of comparative analysis with the purpose of substantiating recommendations regarding the prospects for introducing the concept of lean manufacturing for the period until 2020. Findings. The article analyzes the transition to the principles of the concept of lean production on the example of two enterprises of the MMC of Ukraine, located within the Dnipropetrovsk region. Perspectives of further introduction of the tools of the concept of Lean Production for the period until 2020 are considered. Originality. The importance of practical application of the methods and tools of the theory of the concept of lean production, in particular systems 5 С and submission of proposals, proved the necessity of applying different methods of an audit of production activity. This will optimize costs within the organization and will affect the level of competitiveness of its products. Practical value. Understanding the fact that the company's profit is only an external manifestation of the correct management decision to minimize losses within the company will allow the enterprises of the MMC to progress in general. Keywords: the concept of lean production, losses, mining and metallurgical complex of Ukraine, management, development

AbstractThe paper presents basic conception (system) of long term and sustainable forest management. Forest benefits divides into timber production and provision of public functions. It characterizes a new categorization of forests. The basic forest feature and also the basic forest management feature is a long- -term. Therefore, it is necessary to develop such a system of a long-term planning, resulting in forest management plan. The paper presents main principles of long-term forest management development. It defines consequent key decisions (determining the forest category, management targets, management method, deriving the allowable cut, etc.). At the end, it presents the control system of management that should ensure improvement of the whole long-term process of forest management. It involves a complex concept of long-term and sustainable forest management development, with a practical application in a view of management system into the forest legislation, especially, the new forest act.

In our initial publication on this subject1) we reported results demonstrating that contrast is the most important factor in producing the high image quality required for reliable image analysis. We also listed the factors which enhance contrast in order of the experimentally determined magnitude of their effect. The two most powerful factors affecting image contrast attainable with sheet film are beam intensity and KV. At that time we had only qualitative evidence for the ranking of enhancing factors. Later we carried out the densitometric measurements which led to the results outlined below.Meaningful evaluations of the cause-effect relationships among the considerable number of variables in preparing EM negatives depend on doing things in a systematic way, varying only one parameter at a time. Unless otherwise noted, we adhered to the following procedure evolved during our comprehensive study:Philips EM-300; 30μ objective aperature; magnification 7000- 12000X, exposure time 1 second, anti-contamination device operating.

Abstract The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides), Fifth Edition, is available and includes numerous changes that will affect both evaluators who and systems that use the AMA Guides. The Fifth Edition is nearly twice the size of its predecessor (613 pages vs 339 pages) and contains three additional chapters (the musculoskeletal system now is split into three chapters and the cardiovascular system into two). Table 1 shows how chapters in the Fifth Edition were reorganized from the Fourth Edition. In addition, each of the chapters is presented in a consistent format, as shown in Table 2. This article and subsequent issues of The Guides Newsletter will examine these changes, and the present discussion focuses on major revisions, particularly those in the first two chapters. (See Table 3 for a summary of the revisions to the musculoskeletal and pain chapters.) Chapter 1, Philosophy, Purpose, and Appropriate Use of the AMA Guides, emphasizes objective assessment necessitating a medical evaluation. Most impairment percentages in the Fifth Edition are unchanged from the Fourth because the majority of ratings currently are accepted, there is limited scientific data to support changes, and ratings should not be changed arbitrarily. Chapter 2, Practical Application of the AMA Guides, describes how to use the AMA Guides for consistent and reliable acquisition, analysis, communication, and utilization of medical information through a single set of standards.
