Abstract. The search for a final repository in Germany lies in the field of tension between a past characterized by conflicts and a future-oriented process shaped by the repository site selection procedure. An examination of the history of social conflicts can be of assistance for the organization of participation concepts and positively influence the discourse. In this context, narratives play a special role in the discourse strategies. Over the course of the research project “Public participation in the search for a repository site: challenges of an intergenerational self-questioning and learning procedure” (Brohmann et al., 2021) narratives were analyzed by the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and future images for the repository were developed. Narratives consolidate very different discourse elements and therefore provide coherent tales. These are important narratives and temporally structured descriptions that refer to the past and can encroach upon the present. They are simultaneously open with respect to the future (Geiger, 2006), which makes them interesting for the development of future images. In turn, concrete perceptions, wishes and visions for aspects not yet experienced in the present are elucidated in future images. In the context of the search for a repository site, it is the “sociotechnical futures” (Lösch et al., 2019) that can be used with technical and political means for the accompanying construction of a social task. Sociotechnical futures designate different and possibly contrary futures, the sketching of which are usually related to larger public debates. Starting from a theoretical and conceptional classification of narratives and future images, an empirical examination is carried out in which qualitative social research methods and technology assessment concepts were applied. Using qualitative guideline-assisted interviews, experts were questioned about their present perspectives on the site selection procedure for a repository for highly radioactive nuclear waste. This also included the consideration of the context and reflections on futures to be expected. The interviews were evaluated by qualitative content analysis and the results consolidated in narratives. In a further step, the narratives were further developed in a reflection workshop with young adults and future images were conceptualized starting from various developmental pathways. The results and the recommendations for action derived from them for the participation process of the search for the repository site are the central subject of the presentation. Special emphasis is placed on the challenge of an intergenerational participation. Then, whereas (conflict afflicted) narratives encroach on the discourse in the present (and future) but “new” players without (conflict) experience participate in the discourse, this places a special challenge on the participation process as a whole, as interpretive patterns and expectations are also debated over and over again.

Background: The therapeutic alliance is considered to be one of the most important factors of psychotherapy and is a necessary requirement for a successful treatment in interpreter-mediated psychotherapy. Patients and Methods: Using interpreter-mediated guided interviews, 10 refugee patients who experienced interpreter-mediated psychotherapy were asked about factors influencing the development of a trusting therapeutic alliance in the triad. The analysis of the interviews followed the rules of content-structuring qualitative content analysis. Results: A total of 11 factors were identified which could be assigned to the interpreter, therapist, or patient. In the analysis, the central role of the interpreter in establishing a therapeutic alliance in the triad became particularly clear. Conclusions: Consideration of the factors that, from the patients’ perspective, influence the establishment and maintenance of a trusting alliance within the triad, as well as the recommendations for action derived from this for psychotherapists and interpreters can lead to an improvement in the therapeutic treatment of refugees.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to obtain information from members of the International Network of Agencies for Health Technology Assessment (INAHTA) on their involvement of consumers (patients, carers, and related organizations) in their programs. Methods: A questionnaire for a survey was developed and sent to member agencies in October 2005.Results: Of the thirty-seven agencies that provided responses, 57 percent involve consumers in some aspects of their HTA programs and 83 percent intend to involve consumers in the future. Summaries of HTA reports that are intended to be easily understood by consumers are prepared by 49 percent of the agencies, and 36 percent involve consumers in dissemination of HTA material. Conclusions: Most INAHTA members involve consumers in some aspects of their programs, although not always routinely. Involvement seems likely to increase in the future.

The article emphasizes the role of the advancement of modern science and new technologies in forecasting research as a key factor for making prognoses for the future. It presents the concept of technoscience, developed by the author, as a blend and symbiosis of modern science and technologies, converging on the basis of similar purposes, objects of treatment and outcomes, as well as of the rising engagement with social interests and attitudes. Furthermore, the main kinds of forecasting research with their specifics, advantages and limitations are outlined, pointing out the special role of building foresight scenarios for the future as a prognosis and policy instrument. The tendencies in this field of research are identified, revealing the challenges related to modern technoscience, and the possible solutions.

The article analyzes the philosophical heritage of the outstanding Ukrainian philosopher S. B. Krymsky, who acutely felt the sacredness and spiritual power of the beauty, goodness and truth of this world and all the efforts of his whole life focused on the establishment of these great values. In his philosophical explorations, the scientist gradually moved from the development of problems of logic and methodology of science to the development of problems of epistemology and philosophy of culture, as well as Ukrainian philosophy and national culture, using the method of archetypes and universals. Special attention of S. B. Krymsky devoted himself to the study of the phenomenon of sophianism and the problem of the second spiritual birth of man, as his involvement in certain existentials, among which the main ones are freedom, love and creativity. The scientist emphasized the special role of Ukraine in the modern civilization process. Having the most powerful cultural potential, it must use it for the future construction of civilization on the basis of solidarity, consensus and partnership.

AbstractBiofeedback instrumentation has been a growing part of physical therapy practice for 20 years, and physical therapists have contributed to researching its efficacy in treating varying conditions. The application of biofeedback to the treatment of stroke was marked by some early difficulties with the quality of the electronics, but sophisticated contemporary equipment can do much more than was originally envisioned. The importance of relating quantified movement-based data to functional measures is projected as a high priority if appropriate reimbursement for physical therapy services with biofeedback is to continue in the future.
