This paper uses the concept of the entrepreneurial university and the so-called ‘Triple Helix’ to analyse the nature of entrepreneurial capability and capacity building within a university environment. The authors analyse the operationalization of the entrepreneurial process of the entrepreneurial university as it looks to create new knowledge. According to Heinonen and Hytti (2010), this is an underdeveloped area in the literature and so there is a knowledge deficit. The authors seek to address this deficit by using an inductive approach to develop a conceptual model of the entrepreneurial process.

In this paper, we shed light on the entrepreneurial university in Tunisia through a quantitative survey of 532 heads of Tunisian universities to explore, identify and understand the factors that help a Tunisian university to become an entrepreneurial one. Our results showed that to become entrepreneurial, the university should adopt an entrepreneurial orientation, in other words, it should be innovative, autonomous, proactive, risk taker and competitive. In this context, a proposed conceptual model can be used as a tool for the universities wishing to initiate and implement an entrepreneurial orientation policy.

This article reflects on the concept of “Entrepreneurial University” and, in particular, on the need for university education, and in general all educational stages, to focus on students' executive intelligence, and not exclusively on cognitive and pragmatic intelligence. We present the learning cube, a conceptual model that reflects the different capacities associated to greater or lesser intensification in the training of these three types of intelligence.
