If we could give criteria to select and to create useful and even authentic-oriented virtual heritage projects, what would they be? <p><strong>Abstract.</strong> The intent of this paper is to demonstrate the cultural value that Virtual Heritage experiences can generate. As a proof of concept, game resolution assets were optimized from high polygon image based models (IBMs) and rendered in real-time, within a Head Mounted Display (HMD). The case study of lot 3317 was chosen to facilitate heuristic explorations pertinent to the history of the St. Lawrence Seaway, Canada. This case study explores methods in creating and validating heritage values, while valourizing assets as a cultural resource for use in the future. While at the same time, challenging the current spatial dynamics by conceptually reducing the distance between the viewer and the flooded landscape. In addition to demonstrating the cultural values generated through the veneration of lot 3317, the paper aims to provide a model for optimizing and post processing meshes produced through Under-Water Image-Base Modelling.</p>

Previously, crowd simulation plays small part or probably ignored in virtual heritage. Architectures or artifacts bit more focused to be reconstructed into virtual environment. By inserting crowd into simulation of virtual heritage, it will give more impact and achieve higher realism level to the reconstructed site. Before inserting the crowd into virtual environment, a research needs to be done to manage the complex environment of virtual heritage and the crowd itself. This paper presents a framework with a vision to reduce the computation cost for rendering crowd simulation in virtual heritage environment while maintaining realisms of the scene. We first review the existing acceleration techniques applied on crowd rendering. Then we introduce a framework that will integrate acceleration techniques for crowd simulation in virtual heritage.

The hype surrounding the impending mainstreaming of Virtual Reality can seem to prioritize the digital above the critical. With the development of VR said to be at a pivotal point, there is an important opportunity to consider the emergence of virtual heritage and its potential futures. This paper argues that there is a disjunction between the present reality of virtual heritage and virtual reality, and discusses the twin challenges of presence and realism within virtual reality. In particular, it highlights a paradox inherent in virtual heritage and virtual reality and proposes the use of ‘loose-realism’ as a solution. Ultimately, the challenge is to address the claims that virtual reality represents a new class of information system, or metaverse, in order that virtual heritage fully engages with enquiry about the past.
