The chapter focuses on the electromagnetic compatibility of a prototype of electrical equipment such as street lighting with various LED controllers, LED information boards, and audio equipment. The requirements for the harmonic content of the input currents of the conducted emission power lines are used as a basis for the analysis of compliance with the EMC standards. The results obtained from the experiments indicated that some commercially produced voltage drivers are not compatible with the requirements for the harmonic current content of the input line. The problem is caused by two factors: a bad design by the manufacturer or the wrong LED driver design concerning the rated load. EMI radiation measurements indicate the need to precisely design all functional blocks placed on a PCB with suitable grounding and shielding techniques. This chapter is intended for engineers and researchers working in the development of electrical equipment as well as the general public interested in EMC issues.

The work is show that in conditions of dense the location of electrical equipment in the premises, buildings and on territories to ensure the regulatory levels of electromagnetic compatibility of personnel and the population, it is advisable to carry out preliminary modeling of the propagation of electromagnetic fields it is advisable. Considering the insignificant shielding of the magnetic field by the equipment cases, it is advisable to carry out modeling based on the magnetic component of the electromagnetic field. The mathematical ratio of the propagation of the magnetic field of individual sources, taking into account their dipole model, has been determined. The modeling was carried out for sources of the dipole and dipole-quadrupole types. Three-dimensional models of sources with the propagation of dipole, quadrupole and dipole-quadrupole harmonics of the field are provided, using the Matlab package. Application software has been developed in the C environment, using the SQL server database, and modeling of the propagation of the magnetic field of many sources in a certain plane has been carried out. This result is show that even for electrical equipment that operates to determine the reduced magnetic field isolines experimentally very difficult. At the design stages of equipment placement, modeling is the only tool for predicting the electromagnetic environment, which determines the electromagnetic compatibility of technical equipment and the electromagnetic safety of personnel and the public.

Power Line Communication (PLC) uses the available power line as a communication medium. The purpose of this chapter is to present the salient features, current trend and future scope of PLC with emphasis in the Indian context. Unlike other channels available, power lines are harsh media for data transfer and require efficient modeling and simulation techniques to propose and implement suitable mitigation schemes for achieving acceptable performance. Designed equipments have to adhere to strict mandates at the national and international levels to account for issues related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In spite of this, PLC is expected to occupy an important place in the networking market in applications of smart grid and as a component of heterogeneous/hybrid communication system. The chapter is also backed by results from experiments carried on a typical power line in a test site with a presentation of noise, transfer characteristics, modeling and an estimate of the channel capacity.

Evaluation of the technical condition, reliability of the insulation of electrical equipment is an actual problem. It is confirmed by experience and statistics of operation at power plants and railway facilities. The combination of an unmanned aerial vehicle with UV-camera and software based on neural networks allows us to effectively diagnose long power lines. To increase the effectiveness of non-contact inspection of power lines, especially in hard-to-reach areas, more compact mobile solutions should be used which include an UV-camera and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The aircraft market currently has significant growth, that allows to bring the diagnostic experience to a new level by attaching an UV-camera to an aerial device, which will have a tremendous effect on examining long power lines. But we faced one problem related to the absence of any scientific basis for this method of examination, so it was decided to conduct experiments in a laboratory of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. The results of experiments are presented in the work.
