Let [Formula: see text] be a commutative ring and [Formula: see text] a given multiplicative closed subset of [Formula: see text]. In this paper, we introduce the new concept of [Formula: see text]-torsion exact sequences (respectively, [Formula: see text]-torsion commutative diagrams) as a generalization of exact sequences (respectively, commutative diagrams). As an application, they can be used to characterize two classes of modules that are generalizations of projective modules.

Let k k be a field of characteristic p > 0 p > 0 . For G G an elementary abelian p p -group, there exist collections of permutation modules such that if C ∗ C^* is any exact bounded complex whose terms are sums of copies of modules from the collection, then C ∗ C^* is contractible. A consequence is that if G G is any finite group whose Sylow p p -subgroups are not cyclic or quaternion, and if C ∗ C^* is a bounded exact complex such that each C i C^i is a direct sum of one dimensional modules and projective modules, then C ∗ C^* is contractible.

Gorenstein-projective module is an important research topic in relative homological algebra, representation theory of algebras, triangulated categories, and algebraic geometry (especially in singularity theory). For a given algebra A , how to construct all the Gorenstein-projective A -modules is a fundamental problem in Gorenstein homological algebra. In this paper, we describe all complete projective resolutions over an upper triangular Artin algebra Λ = A M B A 0 B . We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for all finitely generated Gorenstein-projective modules over Λ = A M B A 0 B .

Let A and B be rings, U a (B,A)-bimodule, and T=A0UB the triangular matrix ring. In this paper, several notions in relative Gorenstein algebra over a triangular matrix ring are investigated. We first study how to construct w-tilting (tilting, semidualizing) over T using the corresponding ones over A and B. We show that when U is relative (weakly) compatible, we are able to describe the structure of GC-projective modules over T. As an application, we study when a morphism in T-Mod is a special GCP(T)-precover and when the class GCP(T) is a special precovering class. In addition, we study the relative global dimension of T. In some cases, we show that it can be computed from the relative global dimensions of A and B. We end the paper with a counterexample to a result that characterizes when a T-module has a finite projective dimension.

In this paper, we construct some model structures corresponding Gorenstein [Formula: see text]-modules and relative Gorenstein flat modules associated to duality pairs, Frobenius pairs and cotorsion pairs. By investigating homological properties of Gorenstein [Formula: see text]-modules and some known complete hereditary cotorsion pairs, we describe several types of complexes and obtain some characterizations of Iwanaga–Gorenstein rings. Based on some facts given in this paper, we find new duality pairs and show that [Formula: see text] is covering as well as enveloping and [Formula: see text] is preenveloping under certain conditions, where [Formula: see text] denotes the class of Gorenstein [Formula: see text]-injective modules and [Formula: see text] denotes the class of Gorenstein [Formula: see text]-flat modules. We give some recollements via projective cotorsion pair [Formula: see text] cogenerated by a set, where [Formula: see text] denotes the class of Gorenstein [Formula: see text]-projective modules. Also, many recollements are immediately displayed through setting specific complete duality pairs.

It is now well known that the conditions used by Auslander to define the Gorenstein projective modules on Noetherian rings are independent. Recently, Ringel and Zhang adopted a new approach in investigating Auslander’s conditions. Instead of looking for examples, they investigated rings on which certain implications between Auslander’s conditions hold. In this paper, we investigate the relative counterpart of Auslander’s conditions. So, we extend Ringel and Zhang’s work and introduce other concepts. Namely, for a semidualizing module [Formula: see text], we introduce weakly [Formula: see text]-Gorenstein and partially [Formula: see text]-Gorenstein rings as rings representing relations between the relative counterpart of Auslander’s conditions. Moreover, we introduce a relative notion of the well-known Frobenius category. We show how useful are [Formula: see text]-Frobenius categories in characterizing weakly [Formula: see text]-Gorenstein and partially [Formula: see text]-Gorenstein rings.
