Atopic Dermatitis: Case Series of Individualized Homoeopathic Treatment

Atopic dermatitis is a common, chronic, intensely pruritic, relapsing inflammatory skin disease that affects both children and adults. Atopic dermatitis is often the originating of a series of allergic disorders, mentioned as the "atopic march".There are numerous risk factors correlated with AD development. However, only two have always been related, and they are (1) family history of atopy and (2) loss of function mutations in the FLG gene. Topical anti-inflammatory therapy with topical corticosteroids or topical calcineurin inhibitors treatment are available in conventional therapy but sometimes it has been reported that patients are also benefited from Homoeopathic treatment. Four patients who presented at the outpatient department at National Institute of Homoeopathy, Saltlake, Kolkata with Atopic dermatitis and a family history of asthma, allergic rhinitis were treated with constitutional homoeopathic medicine. Details of consultations, treatment and assessment are summarized. A constitutional treatment thus eliminates the symptoms locally and internally as well as long-lasting relief from complaints. Common remedies include Mercuris Solubilis, Sulphur. This case series shows positive results of homoeopathy in the treatment of Atopic dermatitis. Marfan syndrome in combination with severe atopic dermatitis: importance of early diagnosis and treatment of patients with allergic dermatitis in childhood

We report a case of a rare combination of Marfan syndrome and severe atopic dermatitis (AD) in a 32-year-old male patient. He developed AD in early childhood and then had a relapse at the age of 18 years caused by stress. After this, AD became severe due to stress associated with aortic aneurysmectomy. The patient also had side effects caused by steroids, including multiple pustular eruptions, Kaposi's varicelliform eruption, edema and hyperemia of the periorbital area, pain and swelling of the small joints of the hands. These side effects, as well as specific cardiovascular symptoms typical of Marfan syndrome necessitated the search for alternative treatment strategies for severe AD. Eventually, we managed to find an effective treatment regimen that caused no side effects or adverse events, while the symptoms subsided. This case demonstrates the importance of early AD diagnosis in childhood in order to prevent its transition into severe chronic form that can hardly be managed in adulthood. ATOPIC DERMATITIS: DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS (PART 1)

The article is devoted to the topical problem of clinical allergology — differential diagnosis of atopic dermatitis (AD). The clinical manifestations of AD are quite similar to the extremely large number of different diseases and pathological conditions in children, which often leads to misdiagnosis. The complexity of the differential diagnosis of AD in children with a detailed description of different pediatrics diseases: from dermatological diseases (seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, shingles, scabies, ichthyosis, psoriasis, bullous epidermolysis, allergic dermatitis, cutaneous mastocytosis) to oncological (T-cell skin lymphoma), orphan metabolic diseases (hereditary disorders of tryptophan metabolism, phenylketonuria, Nezerton’s syndrome, etc.) and primary immunodeficiencies (Bruton’s disease, Job’s syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, selective IgA immunodeficiency etc.) is described. Сommon features of above mentioned diseases are listed in the article, also, special attention is paid to variety of the pathognomonic symptoms.
