The !trumpet is software synthesis system controlled from, and playing back through, a trumpet.  It is not an electronically extended trumpet: the player produces no acoustic sounds by blowing through the mouthpiece. Instead, breath pressure and valve movement on the brass instrument are read by an embedded Arduino microcontroller  and sent to a laptop, where the data is mapped onto various parameters in synthesis software; the resulting electronic sound is returned to the trumpet, where it plays through a loudspeaker inside the bell, and is further processed acoustically by valve position (changes in the length of tubing filter the speaker output), movement of a plunger mute (wah-wah style filtering), and orientation of the instrument in space (panning).

The purpose of the article is to characterize the principles of sound recording with microphones in the context of the acoustic spatial features of concert halls, which are an important component in positioning the activities and creative directions of "purism", "individualism" and "realism" in sound engineering. The methodology consists of the use of analytical, historical, and cultural methods, which made it possible to identify and characterize the technological foundations of sound recording using the example of sound engineers. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time in Ukrainian science the principles of microphone sound recording in the context of acoustic spatial features and creative directions of sound engineering "purism", "individualism" and "realism" were defined and characterized. Conclusions. In the work, the data on the spectral response of the frequency range, the stereophonic effect, musical and timbre balance, and the spatial impression of the acoustics of concert halls were determined. The principles of application of multi-microphone technique in instrumental, orchestral, and rock music are revealed; outlined the creative potential of the directions "purism", "individualism" and "realism". in sound engineering. In terms of current cinematic trends and contemporary popular music culture, we hear and become accustomed to exaggeratedly colorful and rich, often "electronic" sound. Since the listener is the ultimate link in the entire recording industry, it is necessary to recognize landmarks in sound engineering aimed at the tastes of the majority.

This collection of essays explores the development of electronic sound recording in Japanese cinema, radio, and popular music to illuminate the interrelationship of aesthetics, technology, and cultural modernity in prewar Japan. Putting the cinema at the center of a ‘culture of the sound image’, it restores complexity to a media transition that is often described simply as slow and reluctant. In that vibrant sound culture, the talkie was introduced on the radio before it could be heard in the cinema, and pop music adaptations substituted for musicals even as cinema musicians and live narrators resisted the introduction of recorded sound. Taken together, the essays show that the development of sound technology shaped the economic structure of the film industry and its labour practices, the intermedial relation between cinema, radio, and popular music, as well as the architecture of cinemas and the visual style of individual Japanese films and filmmakers.

Nowadays, computer technologies are integrated into all art forms. New artistic directions emerge which are totally based on multimedia (primarily audio-visual) instruments. The question about the role of music art in the new cultural paradigm becomes topical. Based on the example of academic music, the article considers the possibilities of using programming tools for music scores processing into a transcript. The authors consider the possible mathematical model of a piece of music which allows processing the piece of music and getting both an authentic and an experimental version. The authors analyze the set of parameters helping to form a virtual acoustic space corresponding with an artistic concept. The authors demonstrate that academic music transcript modeling using electronic sound synthesis can promote the artistic reinterpretation of the score of the piece of music. The selection of particular timber, performance and spatial parameters during transcribing helps to interpret a composition according to the artistic tasks. The use of virtual instruments also allows creating digital recordings without performing musicians. The article contains the variants of forming a virtual acoustic environment based on the example of a classical piece of music for string quartet: from a “traditional” to an “experimental, differing in musical sources positioning, a set of spatial effects and the parameters of their adjustment.
