While an aging population in Japan and other countries is resulting in an increased demand for nursing care services, there is a shortage of care workers due to a decrease in the working population. The use of care assistive technologies such as robots, artificial intelligence, and information technology is expected to compensate for this shortage, and many care assistive technologies such as power assist devices and communication robots have been developed. However, their introduction and widespread use in actual service have not progressed. The aim of this study is to address the problem on less technology introduction in nursing care by surveying the attitudes of potential users to care assistive technologies, clarify the factors affecting the use of such technologies, and propose a new design method for the technologies. We surveyed attitudes to the use of care assistive technology from the perspective of function and information utilization for three groups: active seniors, informal carers, and formal carers. The survey was conducted in Japan and Finland, which have high aging populations. Based on the survey results, we proposed, as a design method, a classification of care assistive technologies according to their interaction with users as well as the nursing care process.

Entering the promotion catalogue is the basis for China’s new energy vehicle (NEV) enterprises to obtain promotion subsidies. Using a multistage difference-in-differences (DID) model with a sample of listed NEV enterprises in China from 2008 to 2017, this paper empirically analyzes the impact of entering the promotion catalogue on the innovation of NEV enterprises. The results indicate that entering the promotion catalogue can significantly promote innovation of NEV enterprises from the perspective of radical innovation, incremental innovation, and external technology introduction of NEV enterprises. In the mediation mechanism examination, this study finds that entering the promotion catalogue promotes innovation in NEV enterprises by increasing corporate profits and easing financing constraints. Based on the conclusions above, this paper recommends to strengthen core technology breakthrough of NEVs, cultivate market demand of NEVs industry, and improve subsidy supervision system of NEVs.

The sustainable development of China’s high-tech manufacturing (HTM) sector is restricted by dependence on technology introduction and foreign direct investment (FDI), low input-output efficiency, and environmental pollution. This study aimed to examine the roles of technology introduction and FDI in improving the technical efficiency of Chinese HTM from an environmental perspective. By integrating stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) and projection pursuit (PP) based on the real-coded accelerated genetic algorithm (RAGA), this study constructed a RAGA-PP-SFA model that considers undesirable outputs. This model includes various outputs, including environmental pollution, in the production function to improve estimation accuracy. Moreover, to verify the robustness of the estimation results, the results were provided when environmental pollutants were taken as input factors. The results showed that technology introduction could significantly promote HTM’s technical efficiency, while FDI had no significant positive effect. By comparing the estimated results with those that did not consider environmental pollution, this study not only reveals different roles of technology introduction and FDI in improving HTM’s technical efficiency but also confirms that ignoring environmental pollution will overestimate their roles (especially the role of FDI) in such improvement.
