ABSTRACT Objective: To implement the nursing process, based on the Neuman Systems Model and the International Classification of Nursing Practice terminology, in the care of an adolescent who underwent corrective surgery for juvenile idiopathic scoliosis. Method: This is a qualitative study of the type of single case, with triangulation of data collection techniques (formal clinical interview, notes in a field diary and medical record information), developed with a 17-year-old adolescent and indication for corrective surgery. The empirical materials generated with the interviews carried out at admission and at discharge, observation and medical record information were treated with categorical content analysis. Results: The categories of personal condition, anxiety, selfconcept, meaningful people, facilitating health resources, school, free time and leisure were recurrent. Diagnoses were defined with a focus on Anxiety, Knowledge on pain management (control) and Willingness (or readiness) to learn, associating them with the respective nursing interventions. Conclusion: The Model contributed to assess and recognize surgery stressors for the adolescent and to theoretically base the nursing process. The classification allowed systematizing nursing care records, elements of clinical practice, unifying vocabulary and codes.

The Neuman Systems Model was developed to create a structure to depict nursing clients as complex systems, in constant energy exchange with their environments, comprised of multiple interrelated parts. It has been widely used in practice, education, research, and administration. An analysis of the theory, based upon Meleis’ methods, was conducted. The theory has high utility and a large circle of contagiousness despite its complexity, lack of teleology, and level of abstractness. Based upon this analysis, a new model entitled the Neuman Systems Model Perspective of Nurse-Led Interprofessional Collaborative Practice has been created to provide a framework for the care of community-dwelling older adults. As a first step in its development, this new model will be used to guide a mixed-methods study evaluating an interprofessional collaborative practice intervention for community-dwelling older adults.

Background: Chronic renal failure (CRF) is an important common health problem with high morbidity and mortality rate in the world and in Turkey. Objectives: This study was conducted to determine the effect of home care based on the Neuman Systems Model on relief of physical and psychological symptoms and quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study was conducted as a pretest-posttest randomized controlled trial. The sample of the study was com- posed of 160 hemodialysis patients. The patients were randomly and sequentially assigned to experimental and control groups as 80 hemodialysis patients. Results: After the intervention, it was determined that the symptoms levels of the patients in the experimental group re- duced and their quality of life increased. Conclusion: The care provided based on the Neuman Systems Model reduced the symptoms of the patients having hemo- dialysis treatment and enhanced their quality of life. Care given using a model is important in improving the quality of life of hemodialysis patients. Keywords: Hemodialysis; dialysis symptom; quality of life.

To determine the effect of the coping with depression program, based on the Neuman systems model, on the coping strategies, self-esteem, and depression levels of depressed patients, a randomized controlled study was conducted. Two groups—intervention and control—were formed in the study. For the intervention group, individual psychoeducation based on the Neuman systems model and involving cognitive behavioral therapy techniques (coping with depression program) was administered at six sessions. Psychoeducation based on the Neuman systems model was effective in decreasing the level of depression, increasing the level of self-esteem, increasing problem-solving skills, encouraging individuals to seek social support for coping strategies, and decreasing the use of avoidance strategy.
