THE ESSENCE OF STATE AUTHORITIES IN THE HISTORY OF ANCIENT POLITICAL THOUGHT

Today, interest in the study of the complex and multifaceted concept of “institutions of state power” has gained particular importance. In the modern globalizing world, the problem of increasing the level of efficiency of government bodies is becoming increasingly relevant. This article proposes an author's study of the problem under consideration. The relevance of the topic of the article is not in doubt. The main aspects of the topic are analyzed and reviewed. The article examines the relevance and essence of phenomena and categories. The article attempts to summarize the discussion as the main part of the problem under study.

Studying Ancient Political Thought Through Ancient Philosophers: The Case of Aristotle and Natural Slavery

This paper examines Aristotle’s view that there are natural slaves, able-bodied people who lack the capacity to deliberate about the good and bad in life, who are ideally suited to be ‘tools of action’ for practically intelligent masters. After reconstructing Aristotle’s reasoning for the view that there are natural slaves in Politics i, and proposing a philosophical motivation for his interest in natural slavery, the paper reflects on what this case suggests about scholarly engagement with the political views of ancient philosophers when these are so contrary to our own.
