Theoretical and Experimental Study of the Distribution of Stress Waves in Linear Viscoelastic Media

The influence of viscoelastic properties of an optically sensitive epoxy material on the propagation of pressure waves in a rod was carried out. In the article of determination of the visco-elastic operator, the theoretical relations for the case of propagation of longitudinal waves are obtained based on the results of a photoelastic experiment. The noticeable difference between the experimental data and the calculation at the pulse end can be explained by the change in the propagation velocity of the Fourier decomposition component of the real impulse.

A Study on the Adaptability of Photoelastic Experiment on Main Tower of Cable-Stayed Bridge

We designed the experimental model of main tower of Tianjin Haihe bridge according to photoelastic experiment theory and proceeded stress experiment at the positions where the stress calculation is precise. Then we compared the experimental results with the finite element calculation results to verify whether the photoelastic experiment fits the stress calculation of main tower of cable-stayed bridge. The experimental results show that the photoelastic experiment could supply gist for the stress calculation of main tower of cable-stayed bridge, which is significant far and wide.
