Abstract Linear zero-rest-mass fields generically develop logarithmic singularities at the critical sets where spatial infinity meets null infinity. Friedrich's representation of spatial infinity is ideally suited to study this phenomenon. These logarithmic singularities are an obstruction to the smoothness of the zero-rest-mass field at null infinity and, in particular, to peeling. In the case of the spin-2 field it has been shown that these logarithmic singularities can be precluded if the initial data for the field satisfies a certain regularity condition involving the vanishing, at spatial infinity, of a certain spinor (the linearised Cotton spinor) and its totally symmetrised derivatives. In this article we investigate the relation between this regularity condition and the staticity of the spin-2 field. It is shown that while any static spin-2 field satisfies the regularity condition, not every solution satisfying the regularity condition is static. This result is in contrast with what happens in the case of General Relativity where staticity in a neighbourhood of spatial infinity and the smoothness of the field at future and past null infinities are much more closely related.

AbstractIn this paper, we present a Kane-Mele model in the presence of magnetic field and next nearest neighbors hopping amplitudes for investigations of the spin susceptibilities of Germanene layer. Green’s function approach has been implemented to find the behavior of dynamical spin susceptibilities of Germanene layer within linear response theoryand in the presence of magnetic field and spin-orbit coupling at finite temperature. Our results show the magnetic excitation mode for both longitudinal and transverse components of spin tends to higher frequencies with spin-orbit coupling strength. Moreover the frequency positions of sharp peaks in longitudinal dynamical spin susceptibility are not affected by variation of magnetic field while the peaks in transverse dynamical susceptibility moves to lower frequencies with magnetic field. The effects of electron doping on frequency behaviors of spin susceptibilities have been addressed in details. Finally the temperature dependence of static spin structure factors due to the effects of spin-orbit coupling, magnetic field and chemical potential has been studied.

The Kitaev model with an applied magnetic field in the H∥[111] direction shows two transitions: from a nonabelian gapped quantum spin liquid (QSL) to a gapless QSL at Hc1≃0.2K and a second transition at a higher field Hc2≃0.35K to a gapped partially polarized phase, where K is the strength of the Kitaev exchange interaction. We identify the intermediate phase to be a gapless U(1) QSL and determine the spin structure function S(k) and the Fermi surface ϵFS(k) of the gapless spinons using the density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method for large honeycomb clusters. Further calculations of static spin-spin correlations, magnetization, spin susceptibility, and finite temperature-specific heat and entropy corroborate the gapped and gapless nature of the different field-dependent phases. In the intermediate phase, the spin-spin correlations decay as a power law with distance, indicative of a gapless phase.
