In the present work, the analysis of the variability of quantitative and qualitative morphological traits of Japanese Camellia (Camellia japonica L.) varieties used in greenhouses of botanical institutions in Moscow is considered. The paper considers the following varieties: ‘Governor Mouton’, ‘Madame Lebois’, ‘Covina’, ‘Bella Toscana’, ‘Bonomiana’, ‘Alba Simplex’, ‘Lavinia Maggi’, ‘ Silver Waves ’,‘ Doncklaeri ’. To assess the variability, 10 characters were selected, six of which describe the leaf (leaf blade length, leaf blade width, leaf ovality index, leaf blade base shape, leaf blade apex shape, leaf blade shape) and four – flowers (corolla color, flower diameter, degree of terry and aroma). The variability of quantitative characteristics was assessed by determining the confidence intervals method and calculating the coefficients of variation. The variability of qualitative features was assessed by establishing modalities and determining modes. It is noted that, in terms of quantitative and qualitative characteristics, weak variability is observed in most cases. Thus, the studied varieties of Japanese camellia have stable features that characterize the flower and leaf blade. Keywords: CAMELLIA JAPONICA, JAPANESE CAMELLIA, VARIABILITY, VARIETIES

Abstract Squamate reptiles (lizards, snakes, and amphibians) are an outstanding group for studying sex chromosome evolution—they are old, speciose, geographically widespread, and exhibit myriad sex-determining modes. Yet, the vast majority of squamate species lack heteromorphic sex chromosomes. Cataloging the sex chromosome systems of species lacking easily identifiable, heteromorphic sex chromosomes, therefore, is essential before we are to fully understand the evolution of vertebrate sex chromosomes. Here, we use restriction site-associated DNA sequencing (RADseq) to classify the sex chromosome system of the granite night lizard, Xantusia henshawi. RADseq is an effective alternative to traditional cytogenetic methods for determining a species’ sex chromosome system (i.e., XX/XY or ZZ/ZW), particularly in taxa with non-differentiated sex chromosomes. Although many xantusiid lineages have been karyotyped, none possess heteromorphic sex chromosomes. We identified a ZZ/ZW sex chromosome system in X. henshawi—the first such data for this family. Furthermore, we report that the X. henshawi sex chromosome contains fragments of genes found on Gallus gallus chromosomes 7, 12, and 18 (which are homologous to Anolis carolinensis chromosome 2), the first vertebrate sex chromosomes to utilize this linkage group.

The aim of the research presented in the article is to develop methods and means for integrated modeling of compact expanded capacity power lines. Algorithms for determining modes of electrical energy systems were used based on phase coordinates based on application of elements models in form of lacelike equivalent networks with fully-meshed topology. These models and methods were implemented in Fazonord-APC software application, ensuring modeling of EES sta-tionary modes, and determining strengths of electromagnetic fields generated by power lines of different design. We demonstrate results of modes and electromagnetic fields modeling on routes of 220 kV compact overhead power supply lines (COPL) with horizontal positioning of wires. For the purpose of comparison, similar calculations were performed for a typical overhead power line (TOPL). The modeling results allowed to formulate the following conclusions: when overall sections of COPL and TOPL are equal, the losses of active power in compact OPL are significantly lower; thus, when transmitted power is 375 MW, the losses in COPL are reduced by 45% compared to a typical 220 kV OPL; at compact OPL receiver end a lower unsymmetry is observed; COPL ensure better electromagnetic safety conditions; electrical field strength at a height of 1.8 m for COPL axis is less than a similar index for TOPL by approximately 1.5 times; magnetic field in the same point is reduced to 60%.
