Carbohydrates which have a common specificity with ABH-blood-groups are unmasked on the surface of erythrocytes by treatment with neuraminidase. With phytagglutinins, the presence of carbohydrates which were not apparent in native erythrocytes could be demonstrated. Differences between the unmasked receptors for phytagglutinins and ABH-specific sites are pointed out and discussed.
