Emergent wireless communication standards, which are employed in different transmission environments, support various modulation schemes. High-order constellations are targeted to achieve high bandwidth efficiency. However, the complexity of the symbol-by-symbol Maximum A Posteriori (MAP) algorithm increases dramatically for these high-order modulation schemes. In order to reduce the hardware complexity, the suboptimal Max-Log-MAP, which is the direct transformation of the MAP algorithm into logarithmic domain, is alternatively implemented. In the literature, a great deal of research effort has been invested into Max-Log-MAP demapping. Several simplifications are presented to meet with specific constellations. In addition, the hardware implementations dedicated for Max-Log-MAP demapping vary greatly in terms of design choices, supported flexibility and performance criteria, making them a challenge to compare. This paper explores the published Max-Log-MAP algorithm simplifications and existing hardware demapper designs and presents an extensive review of the current literature. In-depth comparisons are drawn amongst the designs and different key performance characteristics are described, namely, achieved throughput, hardware resource requirements and flexibility. This survey should facilitate fair comparisons of future designs, as well as opportunities for improving the design of Max-Log-MAP demappers.

Abstract A secure and reliable image encryption scheme is presented in this study. The encryption scheme hereby introduces a novel chaotic log-map, deep convolution neural network (CNN) model for key generation, and bit reversion operation for the manipulation process. Thanks to the sensitive key generation by the CNN, initial values and control parameters are produced for the chaotic log-map, and thus a diverse chaotic sequence is achieved for encrypting operations. The scheme then encrypts the images by scrambling and manipulating the pixels of images through four operations: permutation, DNA encoding, diffusion, and bit reversion. The encryption scheme is precisely examined for the well-known images in terms of various cryptoanalyses such as keyspace, key sensitivity, information entropy, histogram, correlation, differential attack, noisy attack, and cropping attack. To corroborate the scheme, the visual and numerical results are even compared with available outcomes of the state of the art. Therefore, the proposed log-map based image encryption scheme is successfully verified and validated by the superior absolute and comparative results.

A non-uniform constellation (NUC) can effectively reduce the gap between bit-interleaved coded modulation (BICM) capacity and Shannon capacity, which has been utilized in recent wireless broadcasting systems. However, the soft demapping algorithm needs a lot of Euclidean distance (ED) calculations and comparisons, which brings great demapping complexity to NUC. A universal low-complexity NUC demapping algorithm is proposed in this paper, which creates subsets based on the quadrant of the two-dimensional NUC (2D-NUC) received symbol or the sign of the in-phase (I)/quadrature (Q) component of the one-dimensional NUC (1D-NUC) received symbol. ED calculations and comparisons are only carried out on the constellation points contained in subsets. To further reduce the number of constellation points contained in subsets, the proposed algorithm takes advantage of the condensation property of NUC and regards a constellation cluster containing several constellation points as a virtual point. Analysis and simulation results show that, compared with the Max-Log-MAP algorithm, the proposed algorithm can greatly reduce the demapping complexity of NUC with negligible performance loss.
