The necessity of engaging qualified interpreters to work in partnership with mental health clinicians when serving patients with a limited English proficiency (LEP) is gaining widespread support. Numerous research studies have documented improved patient health and satisfaction outcomes in this regard. Psychiatric practice often involves complexities of thought, language, and communication that clinicians and interpreters must appreciate. One such topic is engaging LEP patients in the mental status examination (MSE). This chapter describes the nature of the MSE, challenges when interpreting for the MSE, strategies for handling such challenges, and approaches for effective collaboration between interpreters and mental health clinicians regarding the MSE and cross-linguistic mental health care more broadly. The current state of scholarship in the field of mental health interpreting and training opportunities for interpreters who seek to improve their knowledge and skills in the mental health arena also are discussed.

Динаміка продуктивності когнітивних функцій спортсменів на різних етапах змагальної діяльності

Мета: вивчити особливості продуктивності когнітивних функцій спортсменів на різних етапах змагальної діяльності. Матеріал і методи: аналіз науково-методичної літератури, методика «Таблиці Шульте», методика «Mini Mental Status Exam», методика «Запам’ятовування 10 слів». У дослідженні брали участь 99 спортсменів високої кваліфікації у віці від 18 до 23 років. Перша стадія дослідження проходила в умовах змагальної діяльності, другий етап - в постзмагальний період. Статистична обробка отриманих емпіричних даних здійснювалася за допомогою методу встановлення ймовірності відхилень (за t-критерієм Ст’юдента). Результати: проведено психодіагностичне обстеження продуктивності когнітивних функцій спортсменів віком від 18 до 23 років. Визначено особливості функцій уваги і мнестичних функцій спортсменів в умовах змагальної та постзмагальної діяльності. Висновки: показано, що структуру когнітивних дисфункцій в період екстремальної змагальної діяльності визначають звуження обсягів безпосередньої і довготривалої пам'яті, зниження продуктивності процесу запам'ятовування, дефекти селективності, звуження обсягів довільної уваги, порушення процесів концентрації, розподілу і переключення. Встановлено, що зниження когнітивної продуктивності спортсменів в екстремальних умовах змагальної діяльності носять функціональний характер і піддаються редукціїу першій декаді постзмагального періоду.
