This article investigates Greenland as a setting in new Danish prose. I make the case that Danish literature about Greenland is a significant trend in the 2010s, and that the books can be divided into three dimensions: past, present and future. Focusing on space and place, I exemplify this division through short analyses of the novels Rød mand/Sort mand (2018) by Kim Leine, Godhavn (2014) by Iben Mondrup and Korsveje i Nord (2015) by Bjarne Ljungdahl, which are set in the past, present and future, respectively.

The articles provides an overview of an important thematic change in contemporary Danish women’s writing, a change from ‘adulthood phobia’ to motherhood. This shift relates to complex changes in feminist discourses, from equality feminism to difference feminism. The article also investigates how the literary works interpret the affective stakes of these changes.   , Adulthood phobia, Feminism, Affect, Gender

The article discusses six important trends within Danish poetry from 2010-2020, namely 1) ecocriticism, 2) gender criticism, 3) ugly feelings, 4) physical illness, 5) mental illness, and 6) race, migration and refugee crisis. Overall, the poetry of the 2010s shows a renewal in three areas: the poetic subject that differs from the modernist subject, the use of the long poem and a sampling style, and the alternative reading strategies.

The article explores Danish literature that addresses a new understanding of the human in the more-than-human world and argues that the texts in question will be remembered as one of the most important trends in fiction of the 2010s. Since the texts, in line with new trends in philosophy going under the name of speculative realism, challenge the rationalist complacency that nothing exists beyond the phenomenal world and speculate on new forms of human-nonhuman entanglements, I propose to classify these texts as speculative fiction.

In the 2010s, Danish literature triggered heated debates about the relationship between artistic freedom, defamation, responsibility, guilt and shame, and initiated negotiations of collective norms and values in connection with testimonies in autobiographical fiction. The article establishes that there is a need to consider how differently character assassinations appear in and outside autobiographical fiction, taking into account that autobiographical fiction establishes ambiguous statements that are not found in the media coverage.

This article claims that prominent literary works published and discussed in Denmark in the 2010s strive to avert irony, seeking a solid basis. Examples include Karl Ove Knausgård’s project of documentation; Asta Olivia Nordenhof’s straight, clear-sighted addressal; Jonas Eika’s search for a neutral voice inspired by Simone Weil; and the decade’s agitated debates about Yahya Hassan and Christina Hagen.
