AbstractThis paper presents theoretical and experimental results related to the control and coordination of multirobot systems interested in dynamically covering a compact domain while remaining proximal, so as to promote robust inter-robot communications, and while remaining collision free with respect to each other and static obstacles. A design for a novel, gradient-based controller using nonnegative definite objective functions and an overapproximation to the maximum function is presented. By using a multiattribute utility copula to scalarize the multiobjective control problem, a control law is presented that allows for flexible tuning of the tradeofs between objectives. This procedure mitigates the controller’s dependence on objective function parameters and allows for the straightforward integration of a novel global coverage objective. Simulation and experiments demonstrate the controller’s efectiveness in promoting scenarios with collision free trajectories, robust communications, and satisfactory coverage of the entire coverage domain concurrently for a group of differential drive robots.

In this paper, an active set smoothing function based on the plus function is constructed for the maximum function. The active set strategy used in the smoothing function reduces the number of gradients and Hessians evaluations of the component functions in the optimization. Combing the active set smoothing function, a simple adjustment rule for the smoothing parameters, and an unconstrained minimization method, an active set smoothing method is proposed for solving unconstrained minimax problems. The active set smoothing function is continuously differentiable, and its gradient is locally Lipschitz continuous and strongly semismooth. Under the boundedness assumption on the level set of the objective function, the convergence of the proposed method is established. Numerical experiments show that the proposed method is feasible and efficient, particularly for the minimax problems with very many component functions.

The article deals with the modernization of the structure of physical protection by choosing effective solutions. A feature of the solution of the problem is the use of Markov circuits to model the functioning of physical protection and experiment theory in order to obtain an efficiency function to determine the rational version of modernization of the physical protection structure. Each perpetrator 's path and physical defense response to penetration was modeled by two information-linked Markov chains. The first chain is the intruder penetration path, the second chain is the physical protection response to penetration. An indicator of the effectiveness of physical protection is the probability of finding the information of a critical object in a safe state (probability of fulfilling the functional purpose of physical protection). A general assessment of the security of information was made based on the most pessimistic result of the physical protection response to the intruder 's penetration. An active factor experiment was conducted on the Markov model of physical protection functioning. The factors of the experiment are structural changes in engineering equipment for physical protection, aimed at improving the efficiency of information protection. According to the results of the factor experiment on the Markovsky model, the response function was obtained - the increment of the efficiency of physical protection to the cost of modernization costs. Based on the analysis of the obtained response function to achieve the maximum increment of the efficiency/cost function, the center of the experiment plan shifted towards the maximum function factor by an amount providing predetermined physical protection efficiency requirements. Thus, a mathematically sound way of structural modernization of physical protection is proposed, as well as parameters of structural modernization ensuring the required efficiency.

In this paper, we provide a methodology to design strategies for either guaranteed capture or guaranteed evasion in the case of pursuit-evasion games with multiple players which are represented by nonlinear dynamic models. This methodology is based on the continuously differentiable upper and lower approximations of the minimum and maximum function of an arbitrary number of arguments, comparison principle, and differential inequalities.
