Sulfur-33 and oxygen-17 n.m.r . studies are shown to have considerable potential in following the equilibration of the thiometallate anions [MSnO4-n]2- (M = W, Mo; n = 0-4) in aqueous solution. Chemical shift and linewidth data are presented for these ions. Variations in both the oxygen-17 and sulfur-33 shifts can be correlated with the lowest-energy electronic transition. Moreover, changes in the oxygen-17 and sulfur-33 chemical shift data can be correlated with the molybdenum-95 and tungsten-183 chemical shift values, which have been previously reported. The implications for the nature of the bonding in these anions are discussed.

A fluorine-bridged silicon fluoroanion and many hexa-co-ordinate germanium and titanium fluoroanions have been identified in solution via fluorine magnetic resonance. A generalized shceme is used to correlate all fluorine chemical shift data for hexa-coordinate fluorine containing species.

The 13C n.m.r, spectra of the 15 isomeric protoporphyrin dimethyl esters have been determined. Measurements were made on the zinc chelate derivatives of the porphyrins in the presence of pyrrolidine and assignments are given for the side chain and methine carbon atoms.
