PurposeThis study examines the mediation effects of leaders' communication competency in the link between leadership styles (i.e. servant and transactional leadership) and employees' work engagement.Design/methodology/approachCross-sectional survey data from 392 employees in 33 hotels in Bangladesh were collected. To analyze the data, structural equation modeling was adopted, and partial least squares (PLS) analysis was used.FindingsResults of PLS analysis revealed that servant leaders and leaders' communication competency positively influence employees' work engagement. In boosting employees' work engagement, communication competency is an important tool for servant leadership but not for transactional leadership.Practical implicationsHoteliers and managers may want to adopt a servant leadership style and develop effective leadership communication skills to increase employees' engagement at work.Originality/valueThis study introduces communication competency as a mediating mechanism between leadership styles and work engagement in the hospitality industry.

This study investigated the motivators knowledge workers employ when sharing knowledge though enterprise social media (ESM) in a telecommunications context. A questionnaire was distributed among knowledge workers in one of the leading telecommunication companies in the Sultanate of Oman. Based on the Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) analysis of 100 responses from knowledge workers, results showed that technological motivators had significant effects on knowledge workers’ knowledge sharing through ESM. Further analysis based on the knowledge type indicated that technological motivators and organizational motivators significantly impact knowledge workers’ tacit knowledge sharing, whereas only technological motivators impact knowledge workers’ explicit knowledge sharing. This study provides decision makers with useful insights on the motivators of sharing knowledge through ESM and further advances knowledge workers’ learning and business operations, especially in under-investigated countries.

The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the effect of individual job suitability, human capital on job satisfaction and contract employee performance, the effect of job satisfaction on contract employee performance, the effect of individual job suitability and human capital on contract employee performance through job satisfaction. Data collection techniques are through observation, interviews and documentation as well as questionnaires. While the data analysis technique used is PLS analysis. The results of the study found that individual job suitability had an effect on job satisfaction, human capital had a significant effect on increasing job satisfaction, and individual job suitability had a significant effect on improving contract employee performance. The influence of human capital will have an impact in improving the performance of contract employees. Job satisfaction has a significant effect on improving the performance of contract employees. The results of the mediation test indicate that job satisfaction cannot mediate the effect of individual job suitability on the performance of contract employees. The results of the mediation test show that job satisfaction can mediate the effect of human capital on the performance of contract employees. This can be indicated that the higher human capital will increase job satisfaction so that it has an impact on the performance of contract employees, therefore it is recommended that they often carry out training, carry out promotions and place employees according to the skill areas possessed by employees.

PurposeThis paper aims to identify the relationship between users' perception image, clothing design features and users' preference and propose a clothing design scheme based on users perception image and users' preference.Design/methodology/approachIn this paper, men's suit is composed into multiple design features under the design elements. Using the orthogonal experiment method, 16 schemes of the representative suit are designed. Through perception evaluation experiment, users' perception images and preference degree of the samples are obtained. By partial least squares (PLS) analysis method, the models between users' perception image, suit design features and users' preference are built.FindingsThe interrelationship between the three is identified by establishing PLS models between users' perception image, suit design features and users' preference. According to the coefficients of the models, the optimization schemes of men's suits considering users' perception image and preference are proposed. Verification results show that the optimization schemes are significantly better than other schemes.Originality/valueThe results of this paper can be used for consumer demand-oriented clothing design and provide references and methods for converting consumer's perceived needs into clothing design features.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the increase in active users of the mHealth application as a doctor’s teleconsultation transaction, drug purchases, and other test services, especially the COVID-19 test service on a drive-thru basis, has increased significantly. The trend of health app user behavior indicates the importance of health. To reveal this phenomenon, the approach used is descriptive-quantitative with SEM-PLS analysis method using SmartPLS software. This finding is to make an important contribution for stakeholders that the main consideration factors for consumers intending to use mHealth application are risk and trust. The consequences for high risk are not proportional to the trust in the application, but when the trust as a mediator can lead to a positive attitude from consumers on the risk that will be accepted as a concrete action to use it. In the end, consumers’ strong trust reflects their behavior towards their intention to use the mHealth application.
