The purpose of the present work is the analysis of existing methods of seismoisolation in the Kyrgyz Republic at which 95% of territory has seismically active zone with intensity 8, 9 and more. Also an opportunity of application of system seismic protection as rubber-metal bearings.

The hospital "Darío Machuca Palacios" is located in La Troncal (Cañar-Ecuador). In the nonlinear dynamic analysis of this hospital was determined inconsistencies in its design, such as non-compliance with maximum permissible drifts established by the Ecuadorian Construction Standard (NEC, as per its Spanish acronym), demonstrating vulnerability and possible collapse of the hospital. Considering that it is an essential building according to the NEC of seismic danger, it needs to be maintained in correct post-earthquake operation. For this reason the behavior of the structure with seismic isolation systems at their base was simulated, offering results that analyzed in depth could determine that this measure of seismic protection is adequate. Keywords: nonlinear dynamic analysis, essential building, seismic isolation systems.

The change in the level of seismicity of buildings and structures occurs as a result of updating the maps of general seismic zoning. Ensuring the seismic resistance of buildings and structures is a factor that must be taken into account, especially during construction in seismically active regions. Nowadays, one of the main approaches to increasing seismic resistance is the use of various seismic isolation systems. It is not always profitable and rational to increase the seismic resistance of building structures or foundations for equipment by simply increasing the strength. A classification of seismic reinforcement systems is given, among which the most sparing are special methods of seismic protection in the form of seismic isolation. Practical examples of the use of seismic isolation systems to improve the seismic resistance of existing buildings are given. A computational study was carried out, the result of which showed the effectiveness of using rubber-metal supports for hanging the seismic resistance of buildings.

This paper deals with the effectiveness of two isolation systems for the seismic protection of elevated steel storage tanks. In particular, the performance of high damping rubber bearings (HDRB) and friction pendulum isolators (FPS) has been analyzed. As case study, an emblematic example of elevated tanks collapsed during the Koaceli Earthquake in 1999 at Habas pharmaceutics plant in Turkey is considered. A time-history analysis conducted using lumped mass models demonstrates the high demand in terms of base shear required to the support columns and their inevitable collapse due to the insufficient shear strength. A proper design of HDRB and FPS isolator according to the EN1998 and a complete nonlinear analysis of the isolated tanks proved the high effectiveness of both isolation systems in reducing the response of the case tank. Actually, the stability conditions imposed by the code and a reduced level of convective base shear obtained with the second isolation typology suggests the use of FPS isolators rather than HDRB devices.
