In this paper the author is searching for the connection between the concepts of the rule of law, so called social justice and the concept of the welfare state. The notion of the rule of law needs to be interpretated and defined precisely. The arguments in the paper are supported with selected court findings and decisions. The special emphasis is given to the issue of social justice which is, as it seems, particularly questionable in the field of consumer contracts where the issue of inequality of the parties to the contract comes to existence. Different types of contracts such as the contracts for telecommunication services together with some other issues such as the later change in contractual conditions and difficulties in obtaining payment for provided goods and services are being discussed and discoursed

Purpose Migrants constitute an interesting case concerning the question of how trust in welfare state institutions can emerge, as one can study their newly built relationships with such institutions in a distinct way. The Danish welfare state can be considered a “high trust” context. Against this background, the purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis of qualitative interviews with migrants on how institutional trust in the welfare state can emerge with migrants in Denmark as a case. Design/methodology/approach With the help of a multi-dimensional theoretical concept, this paper provides an analysis of qualitative interviews with migrants on how institutional trust in the welfare state can emerge. Findings A perceived experience of distributive justice appears to be of crucial importance for building trust. Furthermore, strong trust in the systemic checks and balances of the welfare state can “override” negative experiences at its access points, that is, welfare state professionals. Research limitations/implications Taking into account the relatively limited number of interviews, the presented claims drawn from the empirical material are limited. The aim is to reveal some (new) tendencies that can be investigated in future research. Originality/value The paper contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexity of trust-generating mechanisms.

For the left, the results of the federal elections in Germany were almost the optimum. The main message was: the Germans stick to social justice and the principles of the welfare state, they don’t accept the anglo-saxon type of capitalism. Neo-liberalism is in a crisis of acceptance. There is the potential for a left majority. This will not come automatically. Social movements and pressure from the society will have to play an important role. This has to happen while respecting the different character and logics of parliamentary extra parliamentary work.
