This paper deals with the digital implementation of a motor control algorithm based on a unified machine model, thus usable with every traditional electric machine type (induction, brushless with interior permanent magnets, surface permanent magnets or pure reluctance). Starting from the machine equations in matrix form in continuous time, the paper exposes their discrete time transformation, suitable for digital implementation. Since the solution of these equations requires integration, the virtual division of the calculation time in sub-intervals is proposed to make the calculations more accurate. Optimization of this solver enables faster runs and higher precision especially when high rotating speed requires fast calculation time. The proposed solver is presented at different implementation levels, and its speed and accuracy performance are compared with standard solvers.

Asphalt binder has the ability to self-heal during rest periods when repetitive loading is applied. Studying the effect of rest on fatigue law parameters provides useful insight into the healing capabilities of asphalt binders. Currently, standard testing and analysis procedures to quantify asphalt binder healing capability are limited and difficult to implement in practice. Fatigue is known to depend on both traffic loading and pavement structure. Power law relations (e.g., Nf = Aγ−B) are commonly used for fatigue analysis of pavement materials. Power laws are used to estimate fatigue life (i.e., number of cycles to failure, Nf) as a function of load amplitude (e.g., strain, γ), which is a reflection of the pavement structure. In this study, testing consisted of strain-controlled time sweeps in the dynamic shear rheometer with a single rest period inserted at a specified damage level. With the selected test, the effect of healing on the relationship between fatigue life and strain was investigated. Nine neat and modified binders were tested. Healing testing was conducted at multiple age levels and strains. Healing that resulted from a single rest period had an insignificant effect on fatigue performance compared with modification and oxidative aging. Although this paper highlights the challenges of using few rest periods to predict healing potential, preliminary results of testing with multiple rest periods show the importance of healing. Further investigation is needed to verify the effect of multiple rest periods on binder fatigue.

Load stress, which is caused by traffic loading, is important parameter used in the analysis of the new pavement design. In order to study the load stress of lean concrete base in the asphalt pavement, first of all, three–dimension finite element model of the asphalt pavement is established. The main objectives of the paper are investigated. One is calculation for load stress of lean concrete base, and the other is analysis for relationship between load stress of lean concrete base and parameters, such as thickness, modulus. The results show that load stress of lean concrete base decreases, decreases and increases with increase of base’s thickness, surface’s thickness and ratio of base’s modulus to foundation’s modulus respectively. So far as the traffic axle loading is concerned, it has a significant impact on load stress of lean concrete base, and it can be seen from results that when load is taken from 100kN to 220kN, load stress increases quickly with the increase of the traffic axle loading.

Abstract Currently, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) provides the possibility of comprehensive coverage and multi-dimensional visualization of pipeline monitoring. Encouraged by industry policy, research on UAV path planning in pipeline network inspection has emerged. The difficulties of this issue lie in strict operational requirements, variable flight missions, as well as unified optimization for UAV deployment and real-time path planning. Meanwhile, the intricate structure and large scale of the pipeline network further complicate this issue. At present, there is still room to improve the practicality and applicability of the mathematical model and solution strategy. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes a novel two-stage optimization approach for UAV path planning in pipeline network inspection. The first stage is conventional pre-flight planning, where the requirement for optimality is higher than calculation time. Therefore, a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model is established and solved by the commercial solver to obtain the optimal UAV number, take-off location and detailed flight path. The second stage is re-planning during the flight, taking into account frequent pipeline accidents (e.g. leaks and cracks). In this stage, the flight path must be timely rescheduled to identify specific hazardous locations. Thus, the requirement for calculation time is higher than optimality and the genetic algorithm is used for solution to satisfy the timeliness of decision-making. Finally, the proposed method is applied to the UAV inspection of a branched oil and gas transmission pipeline network with 36 nodes and the results are analyzed in detail in terms of computational performance. In the first stage, compared to manpower inspection, the total cost and time of UAV inspection is decreased by 54% and 56% respectively. In the second stage, it takes less than 1 minute to obtain a suboptimal solution, verifying the applicability and superiority of the method.
